ABOARD A U.S. MILITARY AIRCRAFT (Reuters) - U.S. Defense Secretary Mark Esper said on Saturday that all of the nearly 1,000 troops withdrawing from northern Syria are expected to move to western Iraq to continue the campaign against Islamic State militants and to help defend Iraq.
On Thursday, Turkey agreed in talks with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence to a five-day pause in an offensive into northeastern Syria to allow time for the Kurdish fighters to withdraw from a safe zone Ankara aims to establish near the Turkish border with Syria.
The truce also aimed to ease a crisis triggered by President Donald Trumps abrupt decision earlier this month to withdraw all 1,000 U.S. troops from northern Syria, a move criticized in Washington and elsewhere as a betrayal of loyal Kurdish allies who had fought for years alongside U.S. troops against Islamic State.
The U.S. withdrawal continues apace from northeastern Syria... were talking weeks not days, Esper told reporters en route to the Middle East, adding that it was being carried out through aircraft and ground convoys.
The current game plan is for those forces to re-position into western Iraq, Esper said, adding that they would number about one thousand.

Redeploy on our Southern border!
Bring them home, not Iraq
Based on the Dems and media actions/reports, we would have lost WWII.
That’s been ripping at me for many years now. A hand on a sub takes a few pictures of his work station and he went to prison. We have top military officials, administrative personnel and every other person in the damn government telling the MSM everything we’re doing militarily and nothing. They used to get a death sentence for this type betrayal.
Have come to the realization that it will take a very long time to purge the globalist interventionalists from the policy making positions at State, the Pentagon, CIA and other Federal agencies. Until then, despite Trump, these debilitating foreign entanglements will persist.
These globalists refuse to acknowledge that Islamic culture is simply not compatible with the institutions, practices and values of the West. They will not change their medieval ways by force of arms. Every time an American bomb explodes or an American bullet finds its mark, the United States just creats more implacable, bitter, violent enemies. These interventions make the American people less secure.
Oh boy, this will really stir up the hate. Getting our troops into Iraq means that Syria can finally have that part of their country back...and once in Iraq, they can quietly get sent home, which I’m sure is Trump’s objective.
We’ve got a narco terrorist state right next door with Mehico. We’re gonna need troops guarding our southern border. Although I think a lot of gang members have infiltrated the military especially the Marines. They’ve also basically taken over the LAPD and L.A. County Sheriff’s. This is either going to have to be purged or they will be the advanced guard for a literal takeover of the country.
+100!
Oh...
To an undisclosed location.
What is wrong with these people?
...it will take a very long time to purge the globalist interventionalists from the policy making positions at State, the Pentagon, CIA and other Federal agencies.
And from their inclination to talk to the media about military plans.
I’m from the old school where military movements are classified.
Obviously, this is a political move and not a military one. Our soldiers are simply pawns here.
FDR would had arrested any member of congress or news outlet revealing troop movements and prosecute them.

Interesting source...how credible do you think it is?
But as far as I know we still have a small contingent of Special Forces in South East Syria guarding oil field production. From ISIS we are told.
Seems like every goat herder has a smart phone. The video is compelling, backs up the general narrative.
