The #MeToo movement has ended the U.S. career of legendary 78-year-old Spanish tenor Placido Domingo, one of classical musics greatest ambassadors and impresarios. For nearly half a century, Domingos intense stage presence and warm, soaring voice captivated opera audiences; during the 1990s, he reached millions of new listeners as a member of the itinerant Three Tenors. In recent years, long after most singers have retired from the stage, he has continued a grueling international performance schedule, now singing baritone roles with remarkable pitch control and legato.
Domingos entrepreneurial drive has been as untiring as his stage career. He was pivotal in creating Los Angeless first full-time opera company, LA Opera, the culmination of two decades of artistic diplomacy in Southern California. As LA Operas general director, he wooed philanthropic support from philistine Hollywood and the citys political class. In 1993, he founded the international opera competition, Operalia, one of several institutions he has established to promote young singers. He led the Washington National Opera as general director from 1996 to 2011, and his conducting career has spanned opera pits and concert stages around the world.
He has championed the unjustly neglected Spanish opera form, Zarzuela, which he sang growing up in Mexico City, and his charitable endeavors have extended beyond classical music; he led fundraising for Mexico City following its catastrophic earthquake in 1985. Testimonials to his kindness, generosity, and bottomless work ethic abound. Helga Rabl-Stadler, the president of the Salzburg Festival, the most important classical music gathering in the world, recently praised Domingos appreciative treatment of festival employees: He knows every name, from the concierge to the secretary; he never fails to thank anyone performing even the smallest service for him.

Modern feminism ruins everything that it touches.
Meanwhile David Bowie Led Zeppelin Michael Jackson and others are considered rock gods And have not been cast out of the halls of fame even though they had sex with minors
And many tales are not being told about the Beatles
Y’know, it would be nice if the excerpt had included “some” mention of exactly what the “defenestration” consisted of.
You could use the internet to find out...what a concept!
Dont stand near the window.
Luciano Pavarotti, or Jose Carreras?
Elaine affectionately refers to him as “the other guy.”
Would “fenestration” mean being thrown into a building through a window?
I dunno, but we’ll have to find a different word to use anyhow, since people are not being thrown out of windows nowadays, but under buses.
“A whisper in her ear’ ???? This counts as sexual harassment? face palm. He groped her in his bedroom - WHAT was she doing there? This makes me puke.
2. the action of dismissing someone from a position of power or authority.
Outstanding and fair, for once, reporting on this topic. Every word is true. But the fake news is not interested.
I don’t condone bad behavior against women, but the idea a mass number of none-named women can destroy a person, isn’t right.
Stand up women. Tell us who you are and at least give the man the right to defend himself.
I also demand that you come forward at the time of the infraction, so that all witnesses for an against can tell what they know.
Hearsay from two or more decades away is just too easy to fake.
And as for the women who just know things went on, how would they like it if unnamed men stated they had been porking every man in sight for decades?
Two can play this game ladies.
That behavior is considered perfectly acceptable, even admirable, today.
I saw Placido Domingo at the San Francisco Opera many years ago. An amazing talent. And a very nice man.
As I recall, when equally popular Luciano Pavaroti had a hissy fit about his voice, leaving the San Francisco opera fans in the lurch, sitting in their very expensive seats, Domingo volunteered to fly in from NY and sing the part. Everyone sat there for hours waiting for him. A gentleman, scholar, and musical genius.
Boo, hiss to stupid feminists.
#MeToo set out to destroy.
