Why should he work hard on another term, he will make a fat retirement check off the back of the American Taxpayer after doing nothing.

I believe a member of Congress can only collect a pension after serving a minimum of 5 years.

If he’s leaving after two terms then he’s doing the taxpayers a huge favor.

You don’t have a clue!

With only two terms he's not vested for pension.

As others have posted, with only 4 years, he will get nothing. You have to serve 5 years. Even then, Congress critters only get 1.7% for each year of service up to 20, then 1% per year after that. While it might be better than most folks get, I don't think the Congressional retirement system is the scam most people think it is. The problem is how most Representatives and Senators seem to magically get rich either while in office, or soon after leaving Congress.

[Under both CSRS and FERS, Members of Congress are eligible for a pension at the age of 62 if they have completed at least five years of service.]

He needs another term to get a pension. Rooney’s not a billionaire, but he’s fairly well-off:

[With a net worth of $22.6 million, Rooney is one of the wealthiest members of Congress.[2]]
