Twitter is toying with the idea of auto-deleting old tweets or other methods of addressing users' fears of posting, the company's head of product said on The Verge's podcast, Vergecast.
Kayvon Beykpour was responding to one of the podcast's hosts, Casey Newton, suggesting that tweets go private after existing for a year, citing ever-changing "cultural standards."
"Fear of speaking in public and fear of retaliation or fear of being harassed and harassment means many different things to many people," Beykpour, who became Twitter's head of product in 2018, replied.
"These are some of the biggest reasons why people dont tweet," he continued. "Which is why we actually take this very seriously."
Beykpour followed up by saying that auto-deleting tweets was one of "many different product solutions."
"We believe that getting people to feel comfortable talking in public is critical," he added.
"There need to be bridges to that mechanic because talking in public is pretty terrifying for most people."

Auto delete will not include those who are registered Republicans or openly declare themselves conservative
"Except for people we disagree with."
That’s one of the best ideas I’ve ever heard from Twitter.
Delete messages after some time had passed.
The trick will be how to delete ‘forever’?
Lots of people with nothing else to do will see it as a challenge, to dig those messages right back up and post them for all to see, like trophies.
Nothing is ever really deleted. Ever. That’s why I don’t use Twitter, Facebook, or any of that.
Awl because their feelings are hurt...
They are trying to erase history so people cannot call out politicians and DNC hacks
Under the guise of “auto deleting old tweets” the sneaky bastards will erase the electronic trail of their rather definite Deep State aid on social media— to condemn and publicly indict a candidate while HE IS RUNNING for office!
Incredible. Immediately powers that have the ability should save everything tweeted— under the needs of Law Enforcement—
This should NOT happen and provide cover from before 2015.
They don’t think that conservatives are collecting tweets the moment they are made?
I only have a twitter acct to follow DJT and a few others. NEVER post (tweet) anything.
Auto delete Twitter.
