Sen. Rand Paul told NBC's "Meet the Press" that the situation with the Syrian Kurds is much more complex than it appears at first glance and detailed some of the history involved.
CHUCK TODD: Joining me now is Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky. He also sits on the Foreign Relations Committee senate side. Senator Paul is also the author of the new book "The Case Against Socialists." Senator Paul, welcome back to Meet the Press, sir.

TODD: Let me start with the news of the morning. I hope you caught our report from Richard Engel and what he's seen on the ground.
I know where your views are philosophically, and I want to get to that in a minute. But are you concerned that this decision was too hasty and it sort of created a more chaotic situation than necessary?
PAUL: Well, I think one of the things about the Arab militias that Turkey is using that your reporter reported on, it's interesting that some are from the Free Syrian Army, which was our ally for seven years, which just shows how messy this is. Turkey is an ally, the Free Syrian Army was an ally for seven years, and the Kurds have been allies in Syria, so it's a very complicated, messy situation.

That was the dress rehearsal for the European Theater Of Operations. WW2 *really* started with the Japanese invasion of Manchuria on 18 September **1931**

This was the action by Japan that led directly to Pearl Harbor. As a result of the Manchurian invasion, the US imposed sanctions and began to try to starve Japan of resources. These sanctions drove the Japanese to attack at Pearl Harbor a decade later.
Though that said, I agree with the historians that posit that all WW2 really was was a continuance of WW1 with an intermission between.
It was in Spain that the Luftwaffe aka “The Condor Legion’’ got it’s best practice. It was also where the Germans realized how effective the 88mm anti tank gun worked.
I have a feeling this guy would’ve objected to a declaration of war after Pearl Harbor.

Yes, but you can trace the invasion of Manchuria directly to the event that finally brought the US fully into the already ongoing war.
The Japanese learned and realized things from Manchuria that helped them conquer China. Including Unit 731. Which was scarier than any German 88.
I don’t know how many American tankers were scared of Unit 731 in Harbin, China. But I knew many who were scared shit of German 88’s in the bocage country of Normandy, France.
Distinguish between the Kurdish tribes who favor our policies and those who are in bed with the likes of ISIS. you can’t tell the enemy without uniforms.

I don't understand our involvement in Syria, especially at this point, if its true that ISIS has been defeated?
I know our special forces are force multipliers but if ISIS is gone what forces are we multiplying against who?

As far as the Kurds go whats the exit strategy on that one - oh its never and here is why - The Kurds don't have any territory that other larger recognized countries also claim - none which seem interested in leaving the Kurds in peace to make a nice little shithole of their own.
We would have to make a nation for them - I thought we were done with nation building in this region and know the folly
More likely we are using the Peshmerga as proxy fighters to test out weapons using the fancy doodads force multipliers tend to have access to.
Its really not necessary for Americans to die in Syria this isn't our war - this is a different fight this is between the Kurds and the Turks.
Assad has already cut a deal with the Kurds. They will be useful allies to keep Erdogan out of Syria. US not needed.
So he is saying Turkey says they are coming despite our 50 soldiers,...so Rand’s answer is to tuck tail and run? What a sad day for America.
Except they haven’t. 70,000 displaced children, 174 dead fighters and ISIS loose from their cages.
—Well, we should not have been in Syria from the start. ISIS was pretty much a creation of the Bush and Obama years. They are not coming for us in any significant way. I am still waiting for AQ to use their Russian suitcase bombs.
—The Kurdish forces have always been fighting for themselves, including a homeland carved out of Turkish Territory. As a result of this, there have been constant attacks on Turkish soil.
—The civil war has flooded Turkey with refugees. Are they not supposed to protect their borders?
—Do you really believe for a second that the US will fire on a NATO ally? If you do, you are falling for the media bull crap.
—We will never see peace in the Middle East in our lifetimes. You WILL see propaganda showing dead civilians and babies. This is a side effect of war in the 21st Century.
—Look at the people begging for constant war. Are these the people you want running your Country?
Be careful not to let the narrative get the best of you. If we are going to stop being the world’s police force, there will be an increase in “crime.”

Yes if the Turks fire on US forces it will. I could really care less if Kurds have been firing on Turkish soil. The Ottomans can go to hell. I don’t want the USA having any part of rebuilding the Ottoman Empire, which Trump just by his stroke of genius began last week.
