Jeff Sessions 2020 U.S. Senate Run Buzz Swirls in Alabama
Breitbart ^ | October 12, 2019 | Jeff Poor

It will be another four and a half months before Republican voters in Alabama select a GOP nominee to face incumbent Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL) in the Nov. 3, 2020 general election.

However, there could be a familiar face among the list of candidates on the ballot.

In recent days, there has been rampant speculation that former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions could enter the contest for his old seat. Sessions held the seat currently occupied by Jones from 1997 through 2017. He gave up that seat to serve in the Trump administration until his unceremonious exit in late 2018.

If Sessions were to enter the race for the Republican Party’s nomination, he would be joining a crowded field that includes former Auburn University head football coach Tommy Tuberville, U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-AL), Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill, State Rep. Arnold Mooney (R) and former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore.

It was a mistake for a voting Republican Senate to leave office for AG.

The traitor Sessions cost 2 yrs. of Trump Admin. Allowed Dems to run wild under Mueller and RR. And cost a Senate seat from AL. THAT takes work so ignore the goofy aw shucks personality this guy is a snake thru and thru. It’s like the Dems have sleeper cells in DC and some like Session and Burr are in as high as the Senate

So, reading replies here reminds me why I reserve my remarks here (at FR in general), and I suppose my absence is appreciated.

If Alabamans elect that backstabber after watching him snooze through 2 years of Trump being wrongfully pilloried by the Deep State, words fail at describing them.

Sessions IS the RAT

Sessions isn't a RAT. He's a deeply-flawed GOP Deep Stater.

Not only no, but hell no. I will vote for Doug Jones over Sessions. Sessions ENABLED THE DEEP STATE against our President. He is no better than a Demonrat, He’s a gun grabber just like Jones, too.

In what fantasy land? The only way Jones wins in 2020 is if Alabama Republicans are stupid enough to nominate Roy Moore again.

Given that the GOPe openly campaigned for progressive Democrat Doug Jones last time around I would not be casting aspersions on Roy Moore. Say what you want about Moore but I am certain he would never do that.

Yep.

And by the way, we call ourselves "Alabamians." With an "I".

Too many uncomfortable questions for Sessions that the Democrat media would gleefully ambush him with. I don’t see him running because of that.

Sessions is still costing Trump and the rest of us. The Mueller investigation galvanized the left and gave something for the media to harp on 24/7. The whole topic of the investigation greatly effected the outcome of the 2018 mid-terms. All that is happening now goes directly back to Sessions decision to recuse himself.

“I think most all these comments fail to address the real questions.”

No, Mr. GOP Rino establishment nanny, that’s not the real question.

The real question is why doesn’t Trump have a little more control over his party so that this little backstabbing weasel doesn’t become a Romney Minnie-me.

If Trump just went down to AL and said, don’t vote for this backstabbing little weasel, he wouldn’t get a second chance to screw Trump and his supporters.

Can’t sessions work on a sequel to “Reefer Madness” or become a board member for a private prison company?

The voters will decide what the real question is, not you. And a great deal will depend on how the other candidates come across. If none stand out in the crowd in a positive way, Sessions might well win if he decides to run.
