12OCT2019 Louisiana Primary Vote Thread
LA SoS website ^ | 12OCT2019 | Vanity

Today is the LA “jungle primary”. The top ballot item is the Governor’s race. Incumbent Edwards (D) can be forced into a runoff election if he can’t get over 50% of the vote total. LA republicans, go vote for Abraham or Rispone if you haven’t early voted already. Even if you are undecided between the two Rs, please vote for one anyway to force a runoff.

Thanks so much for POTUS Trump, VP Pence, and DT Jr coming to LA to rally GOP voters.

The polls are open from 7AM till 8PM.

Election vote counts will start coming in after 8PM and posted on the LA SoS website:

With so much at stake the Republicans should settle on one candidate so not to split the vote.

“With so much at stake the Republicans should settle on one candidate so not to split the vote.”

That’s not necessary in this “jungle primary”, only that the Dem incumbent does not get over 50% of the vote, forcing a runoff.

“Know any good cat herders?”

We’re pretty good at it after rounding up our six, including one feral (butterfly net involved), to put in cages when we moved.

But this primary is beyond that, I think. WHY are the two GOPs running separately. They should’ve flipped a coin and decided on only one. Splitting the vote is too dangerous.

From wiki on Louisiana Primary: The so-called Louisiana primary is the common term for the Louisiana general election for local, state, and congressional offices.[1] On election day, all candidates for the same office appear together on the ballot, often including several candidates from each major party. The candidate who receives a simple majority is elected. If no candidate wins a simple majority in the first round, there is a runoff one month later between the top two candidates to determine the winner. This system is also used for United States Senate special elections in Mississippi and Texas, and all special elections for partisan offices in Georgia.

If enough people vote for EITHER Republican, then whichever Repub gets the most votes will face the Dem in November. Otherwise, if the Dem gets 50%+ of the vote, then he wins now.

If the 2 of them together get 51% of the vote the Dem loses!! The incumbent Gov has to get 50% to win!!!

I like it. I think it’ll work out for the GOP in LA. Trump’s rally last night didn’t hurt at all.

Exactly. Split R votes is not a problem in this “jungle primary”. Must only get enough R votes deny the D a more than 50% vote count to force a runoff.

Hmmm...I dunno if that will be a factor today.
I know a lot of those old Cajun boys over there on the other side of the Sabine. Some of em are my shooting range buds. Right about now, they’d face a full-blown hurricane to get to the polls. They’re as fed up with the RAT commie BS as the rest of us. Today’s vote will be interesting.

Umm.... no.

If no candidate gets 50% of the vote by himself then the top 2 regardless of party advance to the runoff.

In the past, the Louisiana “jungle” primaries were great entertainment. Frequently, there were a dozen or more gubernatorial candidates. It was common for candidates for a particular office to pay other people to run for that office and criticize other candidates but remain silent about the one who paid them. One of the most famous of these “paid” candidates was a guy named Puggy Moity. Over the years he ran for numerous state offices, some more than once. I think it was 1971 when there were 15 or so candidates in the governors race and Puggy buy 30 minute spots on all of the local stations...I still never figures who was paying him to run that year...it seems he slammed every candidate.
Here is a link to an article re Puggy Moity: https://www.conservapedia.com/Warren_%22Puggy%22_Moity

Here’s a YouTube of Puggy (audio with pic): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSMjMkMCj3A

Bad weather generally depresses Dem vote totals. I suppose it is voter suppression.

I was (pleasantly) surprised to see Dem Edwards get a primary challenge by a fellow Dem. Hope it helps keep Edwards below 50%!
