I’m okay with the Iranian Army solving the problem with ISIS terrorists who are on the loose.
Would be nice to see Turkey and Iran at each others throats.
Our troops safely out of harms way. Trump’s strategy playing out?
I see he is putting troops in SA. Makes me go Hmmmmm. What is he up to?
Another reason to avoid foreign entanglements. Alliances shift all the time
U.S. really can’t support either side.
Until Turkey engages with Iran...then NATO must come to their aid.
Again, be careful what you wish for. This is NATO business, and NATO has to defend Turkey, not the USA alone. DJT will have to start turning the screws.
The Kurds will being avenged by Iran, now that would be something.
Doesnt really work that way.
Undoubtedly part of the strategy.
Turkey is threatening Europe with the threat of sending 4+ million refugees their way.
Very complex dynamic.
Is part of it to expel Turkey from NATO?
Is it a multifront invasion and decapitation of Iran?
Is it ?????????????
Many many possible end games.
NATO is required to come to the aid of an attacked member. But not if they pick the fight. Its not a suicide pact.
Wondered about that.
No it’s not a suicide pact, but since when does reason play in this world of propaganda.
How does that work? I ask in all seriousness. If a NATO ally is attacked, when do the other members defend? If there a vote or something? What’s the process? I couldn’t find much out doing a quick search.
I agree that the interests of the US are not served by getting into the middle of a shooting war between Iran/Syria, the Kurds and Turkey, and I agree it was a good move for the President to withdraw our troops. But, if Iran and Turkey start shooting at each other, does the US and other NATO countries get drawn in to support Turkey, a NATO ally?
Scheme by both countries to squeeze the Kurds?
We are farther away so it may take us a while to get there. They can start without us
If turkey attacks Iran, NATO is not obligated to come to their aid. It’s doubtful we need to come to their aid if Iran attacks them in the wake of them invading an Iranian Ally.
Furthermore, we’re not required to get involved in any war that a NATO member does. Article 5 only requires us to take whatever measures we deem necessary. That can simply diplomacy if we feel like it
Turkey is a dubious ally at best. Erdogan is a nutjob.
Turkey invaded a nation. Syria. If a Syrian Ally shoots back at Turkey, there is no NATO response.
Article 5 does not require us to do anything to assist a NATO member who decides to launch a war.
Furthermore, Article 5 does not require us to use military force. It simply requires us to take whatever measures we deem necessary. That can be anything from a strongly-worded letter on up.
