This is why I am SO glad I live in Sacramento, CA, where we get our power from the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). SMUD doesn't have the sullied reputation of PG&E, and SMUD aggressively promotes solar power in a part of the world where solar power is actually really viable (at where I work, SMUD helped design the huge solar power array installation east of the main office buildings).

Solar is not the answer. So that California can reuse all the power put into the grid from solar the requirement is that you be hooked up to the grid. Guess what? When the grid goes down you lose power....eve if you have solar.
