This is the government directly and dramatically affecting people’s day to day lives. I honestly thought this had to be satire.

Could Trump win California?

The fix for the problem is replacing all the old lines & equipment which will take years & years.

Bay Area outage map. Check your address for possible outage. https://projects.sfchronicle.com/trackers/power-outages/

You’re putting words in my mouth. Is that you, Schiff?

Some industries are natural monopolies and the tens of billions of dollars to deregulate them and make them competitive has royally failed. Telecom deregulation, airline deregulation, trucking deregulation, natural gas deregulation all succeeded wildly. But deregulation in the power industry is a complete and total failure.

Mildest fire season in over 20 years and this is what you get... Gee I wonder what this does to real estate values in the affected areas? Lots of unintended consequences, but this like “climate change” has basically nothing to do with “preventing forest fires”.

For those people who need medical devices 24 hours per day, I guess they will have to move their bed to Avaya Stadium.

Anyone with a family member requiring 24/7 power for medical equipment like an oxygen concentrator that has not made plans and have equipment in place for outages are fools. If my wife is off oxygen more than a few minutes her oxygen levels drop into the 70% range. I installed a generator with a weeks fuel supply when she started using the equipment.

You have to be prepared for even small outages as lightning strikes and cars knocking down power poles are something that cannot be planned for and usually occur at inopportune moments. Saying "I guess I should have bought a generator" during an event with a persons life at stake is criminal procrastination in my book.

“The govt will of course have plenty of power, and plenty of POWER.”

I suspect higher income gated communities will as well.

What are they doing about people who need electricity for machines that they require for medical conditions?

” But deregulation in the power industry is a complete and total failure.”

Most of the power industry is NOT deregulated including PG&E.

Where are those failures?

Too bad about the contents in your freezer and fridge. You wanted to see El Camino? Too bad. Toss that garage door opener. Californians must sacrifice for the greater good. Need power to stay alive and healthy? CPAP? Tough beans. Wait! They will be tough, ‘cause gas is not approved in the green state, and you can’t cook ‘em. Good thing you have batteries, candles, flashlights, oil lamps, and a bbq with lots of charcoal and lighter fluid! Didn’t charge your cell phone or your Kindle? Will the water and gas pumps still work without electricity? Welcome to the dark ages! I haven’t lived in CA for many decades. Won’t go back. This might be fun for the rest of us to watch!

Lets hope the psychos, arsonist/terrorist don’t take advantage and start lighting hundreds of fires while the citizens sit in the dark with no power and possibly no communications.
