Amazed the enviros have not sued to stop that. That is how it should be managed. When all the forests were managed that way often a fire didn’t even burn the trees, would just singe them and many would survive. Most critters survived. Healthy land.

Used to be maintained by logging, wood cutting, livestock grazing. Worked well but socialists think they know better.

There was a recent lawsuit settlement that shut down forests in NM and one in AZ...claiming necessary to save spotted owl. No wood cutting, no Christmas tree cutting, no logging or other thinning allowed. People threw a fit about the wood cutting and got that to be allowed. The truth is all of it needs to be allowed. Otherwise we have inferno fires and burn up the owls they are trying to save. Oh and those owls are being harassed and killed by another bigger owl...not people so makes no sense.

The thing that is the most important for any generator that you get to power your home... you absolutely must have a plug with 240 volt output to hook into your service box. The best value that I see on a regular basis are the Honda clone powered “Predator” generators from Harbor Freight. They have 240v units of about 4000 watts go “on sale” regularly for less than $300. That is a good compromise between capacity and fuel efficiency for most households. But if you have only occasional outages and fuel consumption is not a major consideration a bigger one could have advantages for things like starting a compressor or using a welder. They are from China so they may be slightly more expensive in the future depending on how things go.

Since it’s the Chicago area, it could be some nuts went to court and stopped proper management, or nuts run the forest preserve board, or they don’t have or won’t appropriate the money to do it. I have driven by a couple of them regularly for twenty years, and they have never been touched. They did put in a paved bike/walking path along the edge of one, just feet from dead trees and brush too thick to walk through.

High wind warnings in California during this small heat wave. PG&E shut down power to avoid sparking fires. October is often a severe fire month in California.

PG&E set up centers for people to go to to charge phones, run their medical devices, etc.

The weather danger has either passed completely or is greatly diminished and PG&E is restoring power now. They have to inspect the transmission lines for any possible damage before re-energizing them. Inspections are on-going from the ground and air.

In short, California became an official third-world country with power curtailments.

Continues to Monitor Weather Conditions in Many Areas including Bay Area

Restoration Progress Continues: 126,000 Customers Restored

PG&E reported that improving weather conditions in some parts of the areas affected by the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) have allowed for an “all clear” to be issued for safety inspections, repair and restoration efforts to begin in many areas.

Updates

Kern update

Power was turned off for safety to approximately 4,000 customers in Kern County this morning.

Weather updates

Dangerous weather conditions are expected to continue in some parts of the Sierra Foothills and Bay Area until midday Thursday. Similar conditions in Kern County are beginning late morning Thursday and lasting through midday Friday.

Lets hope the psychos, arsonist/terrorist don’t take advantage and start lighting hundreds of fires while the citizens sit in the dark with no power and possibly no communications.

This was my first thought: there are a lot of "Jokers" out there.

To top it off, the Dems want to do away with Prop 13 which has made it somewhat affordable for long-time house owners like us

There aren't many people covered by Prop 13 anymore. Mr. Inspectorette and I were covered under Prop 13 - property taxes for our 3BR/2BA home were less than $600/year. When we left in 2005, the person who bought our house ended up paying nearly $5,000/year in taxes.

If you were 55 or older did you take your property tax with you?

I'm a born and raised Cali girl and our kids still live in CA. Our son had his power turned off last night and it just came back on. Our daughter has SMUD so she's ok.

We decided to move to NV. Still close enough to see the kids but not in CA. Don't know if we'll hold off the liberal onslaught here but we're trying.

I loved the CA of old. Glad my dad didn't have to see the Libs did to it!

We scouted the west a long time for a new place. We wound up only a mile from where my grandparents retired in 1967! The Spokane airport is only 50 minutes away, about the same driving time as to San Francisco airport. Total travel time is about four hours door to door, far less than driving up to Lake Tahoe these days. So, even though two of our kids seem wedded to the Bay Area, we can still get to see them frequently.

“I loved the CA of old.” — I hear you on that! So many of us miss that old CA.

One thing that is a LOT better these days is the air quality in the Bay Area. We used to get 20 to 30 days a year of filthy brown skies and you couldn’t see across the bay east to west. Those days are very rare now. I hate to admit it, but the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has done a great job cleaning up the air.

The enviros started most of the lawsuits in the 70s so they could mismanage public land so it could still be an issue with them.

The thing that gets me is everyone was against clear cutting forests and that was the original issue. As far back as the 40s logging companies stopped clear cutting. Fly by night companies were still doing it though. I have no issue with the first enviros that stopped clear cutting. The issue was long after clear cutting was no longer allowed and logging companies were planting trees to replace those harvested they used clear cutting as an excuse to fund raise and convince people to support them.

We had pretty darn healthy forests in the 60s and 70s. The socialists will never leave well enough along though, they are still fighting the same battle when the issue was solved years ago. Logging, wood cutting, Christmas Tree cutting, livestock grazing brush and grass- these things all contribute to a healthy forest. The socialists now don’t want a healthy forest, or to save the critters they claim to want to save. They want power and that is what all of this is about.

Socialists are already working on controlling the food supply too. They don’t want us to produce our own food, they want us to import it. Makes it far easier to control the food supply.

Not to my knowledge.

Gasoline only. No E15 either. I know it says right on that.

Actually, probably the best generators other than propane/natural gas would be a diesel powered unit like they use on construction sites. I know of someone who has one of those. Its 15000 watts. He has a 500 gallon fuel tank that gravity feeds it. He gets home delivery of the fuel just like a commercial business.

He said the former owner of the house had a construction business. So, he was already buying diesel by the tanker to run his dump trucks, excavators, and other heavy equipment.

The good thing about diesel is that it can sit in the tank for 6 months and it is not going to hurt it. All of the gasoline with ethanol in it causes long term storage problems. Especially in cold climate areas.

Unfortunately, no. We’re on the Central Oregon Coast, and property taxes are pretty high. Even if we had stayed in Cali, we would’ve had to pay 1% of the purchase price of a new house.

Experience and common sense go out the window when the Left is in control and not enough people are paying attention before the damage is done. I think most Americans are of the mindset that government can do anything, but they fail to make the connection that government too often does not do things well. Then we have all of these messes that are very hard to reverse and fix.

an exception is 55 and older who move within the same county or to any of 7 other counties. They can transfer their property tax if they buy the same value or less.

Here’s a site that offers kits allowing Hondas to run on propane or NG. But I’d run that by Honda to make sure.
