What Hunter Biden Did Was Legal — And That’s the Problem

We need a Washington Corrupt Practices Act to stop political families from self-dealing.

In 2016, JPMorgan Chase agreed to pay $264 million as part of a settlement with the federal government. The reason? An Asian subsidiary of the company had hired the children of Chinese government officials in the hopes of currying favor with their powerful parents — a violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Had the same thing happened with a foreign company and an American politician’s family, however, no violation would have occurred — because no equivalent American law prevents a foreign company or government from hiring the family members of American politicians.

This glaring loophole provides political families with an opportunity to effectively “offshore” corruption and cronyism. It gives the politically connected class enormously tempting opportunities for self-dealing, the sort of thing that is blatantly illegal in almost any other context.

Consider two Washington power families: the Bidens and the McConnell-Chaos.

If what Hunter did was legal, was what Joe Biden did legal?

Also, even if it is legal in the USA, was it legal in the Ukraine?

It may be legal, but it is still corrupt

Hunter, maybe.

His father?

No.

Bribery at the official level.

Hunter wasn’t the Vice President, Joe was.

The only thing that Hunter might have done, being illegal, was not to report the income or benefits to the IRS, or not paying the Ukrainian IRS their money.

Joe Biden, on ethics...really crossed the line, and probably would have to appear in front of a Grand Jury. But I don’t see him getting any charges. He’d just drift off and be angry at how he got caught.

They forgot to add, if Donald Trump Jr does something similar, it would most definitely be illegal. Different party, different rules.

Unethical and illegal are not necessarily the same thing. But tell me with a strait face that this arrangement is not a pay off. Now say it again.

It is not what Hunter Biden did, it is what Joe Biden did. He sold the office of the Presidency to the Ukrainians in exchange for dropping investigations into the company his son was on. Flat out illegal and corrupt. Hunter Biden was just the recipient of Joe Biden’s corruption. What Hunter did was legal. What Joe Biden did was illegal and corrupt.

Deflection, misdirection and reframing - Hunter Biden hasn’t been directly accused of doing anything illegal by US law. His Ukrainian company that he was running HAS been accused of doing illegal things by Ukrainian law. Which was why they were investigating.

The accusation at play here is that Joe Biden and the DNC in general used their political office to ingratiate their family members and setup sweetheart deals to line their own pockets - in addition, Joe Biden used his office to stop the Ukrainians from investigating his son’s company.

That IS ILLEGAL BY US law.

I don’t see Joe getting charged....... he'd be angry at how he got caught.

Yes, but perception is everything......working class Americans do not like to see tax-subsidized pols getting rich on their hard work.

Plus the taxpayers want to know----did Hunter pay taxes on the Burisma income?
Did he pay taxes on the gift of the diamond he was given in China?

If what Hunter did not illegal, why did Joe feel the need to threaten Ukraine to end the investigation?

The NYTimes must want to get out the fact that what Biden's son did was legal. The article is written by Peter Schweizer, author of the outstanding book Secret Empires: How the American Political Class Hides Corruption and Enriches Family and Friends. He also wrote Clinton Cash which, I doubt, was given any space in the NYTimes.

Congress writes the laws that allow their close friends and family to take huge sums of money for board memberships, no-knowledge jobs, donations to their so-called non-profit charities, etc. It's legal but would not be liked by most constituents. IMHO this is the main reason that almost all members of Congress stick together and are against Trump. They don't want this corruption-by-proxy gravy train to end or even be exposed.

A bagman is legal? Nobaody thinks that Hunter kept the whole shebang. That money was a kickback/payoff and was distributed around to higher-ups. Betcha. How else could Obama afford that expensive house and grounds if he weren’t on the take?

‘We’ thought the Unions donating to a party and the party ‘returning’ the money ‘via favors’ was money laundering.

This is the ‘look up money laundering in the dictionary and see what picture accompanies it’ obvious.

The Fed puts the Mafia and all other criminal enterprises to shame and they don’t even need to break ones kneecaps for compliance, just turn the IRS etal loose on YOU and YOUR family and they will have you ‘making up criminal activity’ just to get them to stop AND the beauty of it all is the FED is using OUR money to ‘abuse’ us.

Also, the FED is so ‘corrupt’ that they FORCE the people that hire you to withhold their ‘cut’ of your work from your paycheck.

Wonder how long it would have taken to REALLY rebel if the working class had to write out a check to Unka Sugah once a week or quarter or year?

In this Biden thing, it may be ‘legal’ on paper but it sure does raise the stink level.

PDJT should start an ‘inquiry’ into ANY and ALL sitting POLs to run the paper trail as to how one can start off in deep poverty and after 10 or so years as a PUBLIC SERVANT at least be able to move ‘uptown’ and until you ‘screw with the ‘wrong’ people’, your activities are shielded from us....

YES, Willy S ala Hamlet, there IS something rotten in the state of Denmark.
