John Durham broadens scope of Russia origins inquiry into events in 2017
Washington Examiner ^ | October 08, 2019 | Daniel Chaitin & Jerry Dunleavy

After months of investigating, U.S. Attorney John Durham has broadened his team to include additional agents and resources as the timeline they are examining has extended, according to Fox News.

The investigation of the investigators, led by Attorney General William Barr and Durham as his right-hand man, had targeted the beginning of the Trump-Russia counterintelligence investigation to the 2016 election. It has been elongated to include at least the spring of 2017, when former FBI Director Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel after former FBI Director James Comey was fired by Trump and leaked the contents of some of his memos to the media.

Durham's team has been focusing so far on the FBI's reliance on informants, some of whom, such as Cambridge professor Stefan Halper, made contact with members of the Trump campaign. Durham may also be looking into alleged Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act abuses...

The Barr-Durham investigation is separate from the one just finished by DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz. The DOJ watchdog investigated allegations of FISA abuse by the DOJ and the FBI, and Horowitz has spoken with Durham, who is handling any criminal referrals from Horowitz’s investigation...

The report from Horowitz’s investigation is expected by the end of October, but it is not known when the Barr-Durham inquiry will conclude.

But the American people need to see some justice soon.

My hope is that something pretty clearly harmful to the Democrats gets released in November. Perhaps a juicy declassified document.

I'd like to see a lot of interesting conversations at the Thanksgiving table, where normal people who lean Democrat are re-thinking their position and normal people who support Trump feel comfortable saying "I support Trump". The crazy relatives will always be crazy. But maybe normal people can talk about the news as the worm turns.

Grand Juries can only consider crimes committed in the jurisdiction where they are impaneled. So you can’t just convene a jury in Wyoming to indict people for crimes committed in Washington D.C.

If Hussein’s mobsters are not held to account, the Republic is finished.

*************

That’s what it all boils down to. If they escape punishment, which is likely (who in DC is ever held accountable for anything?) its game over for the republic. Sedition, weaponizing federal agencies, lying to the FISA court, and presidential harassment will all be legitimized.

Let’s get a preliminary report out already. What are they waiting for?

So if its a federal crime, the Grand Jury doesn’t have federal jurisdiction covering all 50 states?

Six months isn’t long for this kind of investigation.

Judicial Watch seems to be doing much of the heavy lifting. They are persistent in their demands for information. Likewise, John Solomon and Sara Carter have been very successful in unearthing a significant amount of insightful information.

If only the DOJ would be half that dedicated.

Exactly. This is a big investigation; it could have been phased or broken up into stages. No doubt some of the work is already completed and could probably be released within the scope of that particular area of the Spygate investigation.

I don’t see the need for one all encompassing report. It takes forever to do that.

Good so “maybe” we’ll get a report by 2021:-)

There are many layers to this coup but you’d think he or Barr could at least compartmentalize a single aspect/subject and release it already to at least show US the ball is truly rolling and not a farce!

A widespread conspiracy case such as this takes place over multiple jurisdictions, in this case many states and countries, and in ether space (over text, email, etc) that would not fall into a single ‘jurisdiction’. Surely there is a mechanism for addressing that.

(And I’m not calling you Shirley)

The great thing about open investigations is they can't comment on them, a concept that protected the Clinton administration for eight years and beyond.

I don't comment on open investigations
and everything is under investigation.

“Broadening scope” is Deep State terminology for “Nothing is going to happen”. The report, like the IG’s will be released “soon”. As in the third Thursday in the week of _______.

Horowitz is probably thinking, “if I go complete whitewash like the Clinton/FBI report last year, I will get shown up badly by the forthcoming Barr investigation”. Horowitz might be motivated to actually name names before he redacts them.

This whole fiasco is simple to figure out. The Russkis DIDN’T use the elections to divide and tear America apart. The “democrats” used the Russkis to divide and tear America apart.

“A widespread conspiracy case such as this takes place over multiple jurisdictions...”

Yes, if a crime is committed in multiple jurisdictions, the prosecutor can choose to file in any of them. However, just saying it’s a “conspiracy case” doesn’t let you pick any jurisdiction you like. There still have to be actual criminal acts at the heart of the conspiracy that were committed and those happened in some actual physical location, so if you want to prosecute those, you have to file where they happened.

“and in ether space (over text, email, etc) that would not fall into a single ‘jurisdiction’”

There’s no real legal concept of virtual space or anything like that. There are real people on either end of a phone or computer that are physically located in real places. Wherever they were when the communication took place, that is where the crime happened.

There are so many crimes here, where would you start? I don’t think all the offices involved reside in DC proper. Langley VA for example is not in DC. I guess FBI HQ is DC. Ft Meade is MD. And what happens when the crime occurred in another country like a pub in Great Britain, or in Italy, or in Ukraine, but not necessarily in a US Embassy? Illegal wire tapping in Trump tower NY? Seems like there are many choices for the Grand Jury venue, but I have no idea how that would be chosen. Durham is from NY. Is that a clue?
