MGM Resorts International has agreed to pay up to $800 million to settle lawsuits from victims of the October 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas that left 58 people dead and hundreds of others injured.
The killer, Stephen Paddock, holed up inside his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, which MGM owns, and then fired into the crowd at a country music festival below. It was the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history.

Big Media should pay half, for celebrating that mostly conservatives had gone to the festival.
This is stupid. MGM should not pay for the actions of an evil leftist.
Law-abiding citizens should not have to give up their private property (bump stocks, which I think are stupid, but we have a right to be stupid) because of the actions of an evil leftist.
Firearms manufacturers should not pay for the actions of an evil leftist.
Sometimes bad things happen but no one gets to get rich as a result.
I agree but looking at a different angle, the victim’s families HAVE to blame someone, which i understand. They had a half-ass countermeasure in security. Maybe these casinos will now concentrate more on hotel guests instead of concentrating on why Blackjack table 13 has a guest with $10,000 in winnings and not blaming him for counting cards..
what did the hotel do wrong?
MGM must pay because they had no exits so people couldn’t escape the carnage. I’d settle for knowing the truth about what happened.
Guests have a reasonable expectation that the sponsor of an event will provide reasonable protections, that's about all I can figure.
Even in America’s twisted tort/liability courts, how is MGM deemed to be responsible?
“A person killed our son while driving a Ford. Let’s sue Ford!”
Forcing MGM to have to pay dearly probably was the shooter’s objective.
Courts should not incentivize mass murder.
I think Saudi hit men were involved.
I suspect the hotel has a published policy of cleaning every room at least every 2-3 days, and they violated it for this guy because he was a "VIP."
I assume he used self park and went to the elevator and took hiss cases upon on cart, usually parked by the elevators in hotels.
He had do not disturb on his door.
So he could have taken weapons and ammo up undetected even iff elevator on camera.
In order to stop the guy you have to screen all luggage at the self-park elevators and the bell captain too for valet parking.
This is a new standard for hotels. The hotel has to pay for PR reasons and MGM has the money./
I agree i wouldn’t pay, but that could also put me out of business.
I assume now they have security at the self park elevators.
There's surveillance camera footage of him bringing it in. He just grabbed one of those baggage carts, loaded it with duffel bags, and rolled it into the elevator. Then as long as he kept those bags zipped up in his room, there was no reason for housekeeping to suspect anything. The alternative is to expect hotels to look inside every bag that comes in, and for housekeeping to do the same.
So attorneys get $799 million and the rest goes to the vics?
This is absurd. Theres no way to defend against this sort of thing.
MGM is as victim here too. Who pays if?
You know folks, sometimes things happen nobody can prevent.
If you want to be covered in situations like this, buy a life insurance policy.
This blame game is nonsense.
I think the Casino is hiding something, but I don’t know what.
I sort of agree with you, but there was always a question about how a hotel guest could amass such an arsenal in his room without any attention from hotel security.
Ever traveled to an out-of-town gun show? The hotels are full of “arsenals” that dealers and sellers don’t want to leave in their vehicles overnight.
In fact, most of the best guns are bought and/or traded in those very same hotel rooms, not at the show itself.
I think Saudi hit men were involved.
I do believe you right on target, as I believe it was an assassination attempt by the Saudis which went haywire and our government made sure the truth was silenced and never seen the light of day. A while back some Freeper posted the sequence of events of what actually went down what made the most sense, and most likely that one single guy who got the blame, probably never fired a single shot. But so it goes....
