Congressman Chris Collins will resign from Congress according to a source.
The congressman is set to appear in federal court on Tuesday where he will change his plea related his insider trading case. A hearing on the matter is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at 3:00. The Associated Press reported that he is expected to plead guilty.
Collins had previously entered a not guilty plea, and had said as recently as this summer that he maintained his innocence and had no intention of taking a plea deal.
"I've said all along that I'm not doing anything to get a plea deal. I intend to go to trial and clear my name," Collins said in August.
It is not clear at this point in time if Collins will plead guilty to the original charges, or lesser charges.

I thought congressmen were immune from insider trading allegations and just assumed that’s how they get rich.
Not all congressmen are Democrats.
I thought Congress was allowed to use info it obtained on the job to invest.
Collins district is solidly republican, even though under the cloud of these insider trading allegations, he still beat the Democrat challenger in 2018 by a slim margin.
His seat will be wide open now, I expect the race to come down the local insider country-club Republican, Chris Jacobs, and a Western NY conservative radio host (and bronze star winner) David Bellavia. Bellavia would win hands-down if he really wants it.

This district has been gerrymandered so much over the last decades as upstate and Western NY in particular, as lost population. For 12 years it was Democrat only because it held most of the city of Buffalo, giving Brian Higgins, a careerist, effete Democrat the seat. It will be re-designed again in 2020, and with Democrats controlling everything in NY, you are correct that nothing is to be assumed.
I am not sure if this is true, but that wouldn’t be the case here anyway as he obtained this information by being in the board of directors of that company.
I don’t really understand why he did it just for few hundred thousands. He is either in serious financial trouble or just super arrogant.
