Dallas Fed's Kaplan: U.S. needs more, not less, immigration for economic growth
WIQB/Rooters ^ | 9/26/2019 | Howard Schneider

Proposals to curb immigration will weigh on economic growth in the United States where the existing workforce is growing more slowly as the population ages, Dallas Federal Reserve president Robert Kaplan said on Thursday.

"If you think you are actually going to cut the number of immigrants and grow GDP, those two things do not go together ... You need to grow the workforce," Kaplan said.

He suggested the United States consider reforms that would allow more immigration based on surveys of needed skills. "Trade and immigration loom very large as opportunities for the U.S. to grow faster as opposed to threats."

Its interesting that Mr Kaplan doesn't advocate for increasing the birthrate or decreasing abortion, as a remedy for decreasing workers.

Rather, he advocates bringing more people from ****hole countries here, to drive down wages and increase social disharmony so that the heritage Americans remain destitute and unable to form families and households, thus driving birthrates even lower, in a vicious cycle.

Its all about the GDP, and nothing else matters, in the eyes of these elitist clowns.

BTW, as to his thesis that the workforce is decreasing due to aging, I doubt this, because retirement will be a thing of the past, as people cannot afford to retire, due to ZIRP/NIRP policies from central banks, like the Fed.

Okay, I won’t disagree with the premise . . . but that does not negate following the law and bringing in immigrants under that law, after they have been properly vetted.

If my SUv is a 6 passenger vehicle, how is it wise to stuff 12 people into it?

I’d question the validity of GDP as a sole measure of growth

“He suggested the United States consider reforms that would allow more immigration based on surveys of needed skills.”

President Trump said exactly the same thing.

I have no objection to more immigrants entering our country as long as it is done legally and the immigrant has skills we can use.

No, all those surly brown-skinned low skilled workers they are importing are chomping at the bit and can’t WAIT to support pasty white effete liberals throughout their lengthy retirement. You must not have gotten the memo.

This is a speaker at an energy conference.

Only three paragraphs to report what he said?

Skilled Immigrants willing to work, sure I can understand, I am reasonable person after all

Illegal “immigrants”, hell no, we don’t need law breakers here who are just going to mooch off the system and create crime. (We have enough of our own home grown moochers, we don’t need to import more)

Why is this so difficult for the academia types to understand?

This globalism on display. Rising wages and prosperity are what increase indigenous birth rates. America is sick and need to STOP immigration for a long, long time.

Importing more wage slaves may increase overall GDP, I doubt that, but it will decrease per capita income.

We could double the size of the economy by paying the airfare of Third Worlders to live here.

We shouldn’t.

Immigration must be linked to housing affordability in leading American cities.

A smart kid from Toledo should be able to go to college and find a job and his own housing anywhere in the USA.

a competing premise could also be increasing domestic productivity (r&d, worker training/re-training, more competition in education), and of course there are otehr ways of increasing population that don’t involve destroying our language and culture.....

Per capita GDP had nothing to do with overall GDP.

Yes because there are not enough collage degrees graduated to make beds and scrub toilets while we the tax payers have to pay for expanding schools and more crime. I think this country needs less asshole like Mr. Kaplan in charge of over seeing our money.

This is the same argument that Germany and then other Eurpean countries used to encourage foreign workers from countries because of the demographics of their declining birth rate.

Read America Alone and the sequel by Mark Steyn and learn how well that works out. This year our birth rate dipped BELOW the number that is required for a stable population.

If we aren’t growing, we’re dying out and some other population from around the world which will not have the same cultural ethos as our native poplulation which is basically European and Judeo/Christian.

Other ways to grow the workforce include: (1)improve employee wages, benefits, and working conditions so employees extend their careers; (2) improve education, especially remedial education and adult skills training; (3) discourage the often aimless pursuit of four year college degrees that delay the start of adult work careers; and (4), boost capital spending that enhances productivity. Of course, these require more spending on human capital and imply major reforms that will be politically wrenching.

Why not import 3,000,000 Asian year? Why not 4,000,000 f---ing million?

Free Traitors™ like you are why the GOP is finished.

Actually the USA could replace all 300,000,000 of us with Indians and India herself would still have 700,000,000 to spare.

The elites seem to view everything purely from a financial perspective. They don’t care about things like crime, quality of life, cultural cohesion, overcrowding of our cities, etc.
