Istanbul (AFP) - Dozens of women protested in Istanbul on Saturday to denounce rising violence against women and the government's failure to stop brutal attacks across the country.

They gathered in the Kadikoy neighbourhood on the Asian side of Istanbul, recounting harrowing stories of women recently murdered across the country, including Emine Bulut, whose killing by her ex-husband in August sparked outrage.

"Stop the murder of women!", "Stop male violence!" and "Do not watch violence, do something," they shouted.

You know what helps prevent violence against women? Arming them.

had the women pictured stepped out side of Istanbul dressed as they are pictured, they would have been caned at the very least. Only in the cites can women wear tight fitting western clothes.

And of course they lack male escorts making them subject to any brutality including rape. And no. their protests will go nowhere since they are going against 1400 years of custom and the koran, sunnahs and hadiths. The only place these women would be sent in the countryside would be the local karahanni ...

While I am sympathetic to the plight of these women, I do NOT like being manipulated by news story...

Islam is the problem. Kemal Ataturk knew this and suppressed Sharia while building a secular republic. He hated Arabs for bringing Islam to Turkey.

But now Erdogan has been in power for over a decade and he is dismantling Kemalist secularism and bringing back Sharia.

No wonder crimes against women are escalating. And when he announces that Hagia Sophia is a mosque once again, Turkish women will need to don their hijabs muy pronto.

“” “” had the women pictured stepped out side of Istanbul dressed as they are pictured, they would have been caned at the very least. “” “”

Not really. Even in ‘conservative’ Turkish Southeast Islamic dress is still rare although already present now.

Tukkish gun regulations are lax even compared to US. There are some tricks but women aren’t discriminated in this sense.

The heart of the evil is islam. Ataturk knew what would bring Turkey into the modern world. Islam is reversing his foresight. Violence and murder are hallmarks of islam.

Fascists in the east use Islam to push their agenda, like fascists in the west use man-caused climate change.

LOL. That’s typical Turkish. One would call it ballasted or balanced. The opposite to top-heavy:)

Go a bit further north and east then and walk back into the 7th century.

I have been near everywhere in Turkey. Some places are depressive but more like 1920s than 7th century.

Anatolian Turks are mostly a mix of Tatar-Mongols and Aegean Greeks genetically with very slight Arab and Slavic influence.
That didn’t play well for girls in general although they are pretty much Euro above waterline.
