Now you know one reason why the Founders did not want a Parlimentary system.
Now you know one reason why the Founders did not want a Parlimentary system.
Liberman is the white line down the middle of the road, but appears to have dealt himself out. The question is, was it on purpose, in an effort to push the two largest blocs into a deal? Someone is going to crack.

[snip] Lieberman, who holds right-wing views and has been supportive of Netanyahu for decades, told JNS that the moment Netanyahu and Likud chose to close a deal with the ultra-Orthodox and messianic parties, we could not recommend Netanyahu for prime minister. ... Lieberman explained to JNS that the moment Benny Gantz chose to seek the support of the Joint Arab List, we could not recommend Gantz for prime minister. [/snip]
Note that Blue & White #2, uber leftist Yair Lapid, says he he will not be part of a unity government with Netanyahu.
Which means, he'll be out (they'll have to do without number two ;^).
Blue&White is not a single party. It is a technical alliance. Taking Lapids 13 or so seats away from Gantz would leave Gantz powerless.
Dumping Lapid would leave him with 20 or so seats, more than enough to enter Bibi's block in good stead, but having to accept the rest of Bibi's current partners. The alternative is, he's counting on thin air if he gets his shot in a month.

from the wiki-wacky page on Blue and White:
The alliance is led by Benny Gantz and Yair Lapid. Should it become the lead faction in forming a government, the two have agreed to a rotation which would have Gantz serving for the first two years as prime minister, with Lapid as foreign minister and Telem leader Moshe Ya'alon (in the third slot on the list) as defense minister. For the next two years, Lapid would serve as prime minister, with Gantz as defense minister. Following them on the party list are Blue and White spokesman Gabi Ashkenazi, Histadrut Chairman Avi Nissenkorn, Meir Cohen, Miki Haimovich, Ofer Shelah, Yoaz Hendel, and Orna Barbivai. Hili Tropper, number 12 on the party list, is Gantz's speechwriter and closest aide.
from the wiki-wacky page on Israel Resilience Party:
Gantz also focused on ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all citizens, and combating violence against women. He promised to "deepen my partnerships with the ultra-Orthodox, the Arabs, and the Druze" in establishing a civil service for all, in addition to army service.
Regarding national security, Gantz vowed to "strengthen the settlement blocs and the Golan Heights, from which we will never retreat", also pledging that a "United Jerusalem" will forever remain Israel's capital. He said that the Jordan Valley should remain as the country's eastern security border, without allowing the Palestinians living beyond the separation barrier to "endanger our security and our identity as a Jewish state". He said he will strive for peace, mentioning the treaties with Egypt and Jordan, and commending prime ministers Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Rabin, and even his current rival Benjamin Netanyahu as "patriots". Gantz personally addressed Iranian general Qassem Suleimani and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah that he "will not tolerate a threat to Israeli sovereignty", and warned Hamas leader Ahmed Sinwar, "I suggest you not test me again."
According to Gantz, he leans right when it comes to security issues, left when it comes to socio-economic issues, and liberal in his economic goals.
Gantz is Netanyahu light. Yair Lapid and Moshe Ya'alon are both very much Never-Bibi's.
