Chanel Miller the Emily Doe who became a #MeToo movement champion with a powerful victim-impact statement against her assailant has given her first television interview.
In an interview with 60 Minutes, Miller, who went public with her real identity earlier this month, recalls her reaction to the March 2016 sentencing of Brock Turner, a former star swimmer at Stanford University. Turner was found guilty of three felonies for sexually assaulting her outside an on-campus fraternity party in January 2015, and served only three months in county jail.
I was in shock, Miller says. So youre saying I just put aside a year and a half of my life so he could go to county jail for three months.
Miller, who lives in San Francisco and holds a degree in literature from the University of California, Santa Barbara, adds: There are young men, particularly young men of color, serving longer sentences for non-violent crimes, for having a teeny bit of marijuana in their pocket. And hes just been convicted of three felonies one month for each felony. How can you explain that to me?

Detailing the aftermath of the attack to 60 Minutes, Miller says, [Rape] is not a punishment for getting drunk. And we have this really sick mindset in our culture, as if you deserve rape if you drink to excess.
She adds, You deserve a hangover, a really bad hangover, but you dont deserve to have somebody insert their body parts inside of you.

It was all about this drunk chick getting drunk at a fraternity party. And then getting raped.
Except she was NOT raped.
Stanford Sex Assault Survivor Thinks Brock Turner Is in Denial, Doesn't 'Truly Understand' His Crime
Correct, however, drunkeness may cause sex that cannot be remembered to happen.
If I get stinkin, passed out drunk and end up driving into the ghetto where I am killed do I have some responsibility for my actions?
No I am not downplaying rape.
Sometimes getting raped is a consequence of getting drunk.
Don’t get drunk around strangers.
“And we have this really sick mindset in our culture, as if you deserve rape if you drink to excess.”
Well, there IS that pesky ‘Personal Responsibility’ stuff.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes! Stay SOBER and out of dangerous situations, ya dumb@ss.
That depends on what country you’re in.
She was unconscious. Witnessed by two rescuers and police and EMS.
Turner penetrated her with his hand, causing vaginal injuries.
That is rape, legally and morally.
I learned that at the age of 18. Two black eyes was all I got, but yeah, lesson learned.
There’s no excuse for a woman not being safe alone in a group of men after getting totally blitzed.
At the same time, that is one of a number of situations I would urge women I care about to avoid, in the interest of their own safety.
Women get irate when I urge them to avoid certain situations.
Okay, do what you want. Just don’t complain to the world after the fact.
Avoid situations that put you at risk. Some risks must be taken in life, but elevating your level of risk isn’t going to improve your chances of being safe.
She got drunk at a party and had sex while she was drunk?
He did it while EMS and police were there to witness it? Why didn’t they stop it then! Kind of weird if you ask me.
>>>[Rape] is not a punishment for getting drunk . . .”
No, but it can be the result of some pretty stupid life decisions . . . such as getting drunk.
It shows pretty bad judgement, but there is no excuse for anyone to have sex with anyone who is unconscious regardless of the cause of unconsciousness. She was 21 at the time of the attack which is 2 years older than Turner. She was probably a Junior at the time it happened.
No, she didn’t have sex! She got drunk, passed out and he helped himself to ‘party favors’ while she was unconscious. That’s RAPE!
Some women are just not capable of thinking clearly any longer.
If you walk down a dark alley at night, dressed like a skank, do women think they have absolutely nothing to fear? That’s like saying you were walking down a dark alley or anywhere else at night carrying a large pile of cash, visible to all, and how dare anyone rob you.
Do these women think we live in a perfect, sin-free world? It would be wonderful if we did, but we don’t.
So she actually didn’t get raped? But she got ...what...abused somehow?
She was unconscious when the two Swedish students saw Turner raping her. She was still unconscious when police arrived just a few minutes later and did not respond to being shaken and shouted at. She did not begin to stir until almost three hours after the Swedish students spotted Turner raping her.
When a blood test was done on her hours after the attack, she had a blood alcohol level of .12. Doctors estimated that at the time of the attack her blood alcohol level was .24 to .25
I honestly can't figure out what happened here? What is a party favor?
No, she got drunk at a party and wandered off and passed out near a dumpster (if I recall correctly). This white guy athlete BMOC sees an opportunity and decides he’s going to take advantage. Two guys walking by, witness and take action against the sick perv saving the gal from being raped.
Unfortunately, those with no clue and an agenda will dig for any excuse to blame it on the victim. We saw it the past two weeks in the NFL and we see it here. Sick people all.
