CNN’s Martin Savidge traveled to the iron range area of Minnesota this week. The Iron Range near Lake Superior is traditionally a Democratic stronghold. Not anymore. Miners and working families are voting for Trump.

Democrats and their Socialist promises scare the hell out of middle Americ

Trump should win those states again. Given all his negative baggage, its going to turn on the economy.

Obama was in worse shape and he still won a second term.

I told you so!!!

Minnesota Democrats often dominate our state through metro Twin Cities leftists. In the past the Ne corner of Minnesota was always safely Democrat: Iron miners & longshoremen’s unions, etc.

The Dems at the state capitol are again trying to kill the new plans for copper and nickel mining in NE Minnesota. Finally the guys up north have seen the light, and it took a strong person like Donald Trump to be the catalyst to tip this state.

This article/news item sounds a lot like what was published in 2016 about western Pennsylvania just before the election.

I love your posts.

I think your deep logic is something like this: polls don’t reflect the Trump phenomenon, and in fact, traditional partisan measures don’t either (and that contributes to the polling difficulty).

Accordingly, off year elections are not a great indicator. (Using history as a guide, after Ohio went blue in 2006, I knew then that there was no way a Republican could win in 2008....logic was simple. Bush only beat Kerry with Ohio. Then the GOP lost Ohio. 2008 was the D’s to lose at that point).

The data we are looking at is a bit more “anecdotal” (people talking, crowd size) but not hard analytic - which is what the polls used to be. (I’ve never dismissed softer data, like yard signs, for example, especially in local elections....but I’ve never used soft data as absolute).

But you could go back to teh first point....polling (even assuming good faith, which is obviously not true) is just one more data point which can be discounted or re-weighed against other things that we KNOW (such as 2016).

I’m “mostly” persuaded by everything that you say.

My only challenge is that mid-terms and numbers are not currently great for the GOP in MI, WI and PA - obviously critical states last time. And they were pretty close.

I already hear you responding in my head, and like I said....I’m almost persuaded.

One question, though.

Will the turmoil at the NRA hurt their GOTV efforts? That bothers me.

Oh, and any insight to the Amish in PA? Are they still engaged or will they be in 2020?

Thank you again. Your posts are super appreciated.

Nope. Have family in MN. Most all of them are disgusted with the imported Somalis. They have spread far and wide outside of Minneapolis is the state. Omar is the straw that broke the Dems back in MN.

A Trump rally in the Iron Range would be awesome.

The only option left for democrats to win is to assassinate Trump.

God help us all when they finally realize that.

Trump keeps the democrats on the defensive. He’s forcing them to campaign in their usual states instead of having them work to take purple states or flip the normal democrat states he won in 2016. He’s a master at this. His appearance in New Mexico is a fine example.

There is NO PATH.. ZERO to the white house for the Democrats in 2020... short of either a complete economic meltdown between now and next November, or some other black swan event of that magnitude.

See post# 29.

Pray for Trump. Pray HARD

Because - Surprise, CNN - those decent folks like having a roof over their kids’ heads. Because they like having food on the kitchen table to feed their families.

AND because they're sick to death of violent illegals willing to work under that table keeping wages low... and stealing entry level jobs from their kids. Oh, and CNN sucks. Even if they did report this story honestly...

Also - two more things. Culturally, Minnesota tilts more conservative than liberal. The social issues being rammed down the throats by liberals [Ilhan Omar, D MN 5th District becoming notorious] is helping get the word out to rural Minnsotans - and the huge hunting population in Minnesota.

Personally, I don't see how he can lose Minnesota considering the charisma the Dem candidates don't have.

The GOP was extremely terrified of the Race Card.
Zero was skilled at playing it (Not the best but skilled!). Mormons are particularly vulnerable to it because of past history.

So “Race card” + “Richie Rich GOP candidate (so class warfare card was in play!)” + “GOP candidate with a weird personality (even National Review recognized that!)” + “GOP candidate who historically was a mediocre campaigner” = Loss!

If Trump were to win comfortably in 2020, we might see some on-air suicides this time (Maddow, Raddatz, et al).
________________

lol. My money is on Raddatz.

Maddow, to some degree, at least tried to keep from breaking down.

Also, keep an eye on Richard Engel. On election night 2016, that man had a hilarious pout that was 10 minutes long.
