Tulsi Gabbard: Saudi Promotion of ‘Extremist Wahhabi Ideology’ a Bigger Threat to U.S. Than Iran

(Video) Tulsi Gabbard: Trump response to Saudi oil strikes a 'disgrace'

Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s “Your World,” Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), a candidate for the 2020 Democratic Party presidential nomination criticized President Donald Trump’s response to an attack on an oil production facility in Saudi Arabia.

Gabbard went on to argue Saudi Arabia’s promotion of extremist Wahhabi ideology was a bigger threat to the United States than Iran.

Partial transcript as follows:

CAVUTO: All right, so the interpretation I have is that you want to bring back that Iran deal, get — move back to that.

....

GABBARD: No, I’m a fan of the United States of America. I’m a fan of the American people.

And as president and commander in chief, I would put their interests above all else, putting the wellbeing of the American people —

CAVUTO: Is it in our interests for Saudi Arabia — is it in our interests for Saudi Arabia to be protected or its kingdom to be protected? Or do you draw a distinction?

GABBARD: Well, let me tell you what is not in our interest, is this alliance that has been longstanding between the United States and Saudi Arabia, in spite of the fact that they are directly and indirectly supporting Al Qaeda, the terrorist group that attacked us on 9/11.

We just observed the 18th anniversary of that terrible attack on our country in 2001. They are continuing to spend billions of dollars every year propagating this extremist Wahhabi ideology that’s fueling the growth of terrorist groups like Al Qaeda and ISIS and others around the world.

They are directly supporting those who pose a threat to our country and the United States, that threat that we need to defeat.

Miss Hawaiian Tropic is a bomb thrower. She’s saying whatever gets attention, basically.

Alternatively, she can position herself to be a SecDef choice or some other appointment that will help to establish her as a national figure. Her transformation from a Hawaiian National Guard soldier into a political figure with gravitas is a work in progress.

She is no different than every other politician who is always looking to grow their credibility, viability and visibility. They grab onto whatever handhold is nearest to them.

She is positioning herself to both appeal to potential Trump voters, and to be the VP attack dog. Can you imagine her in a debate with Mike Pence?

Agree. These jabs she throws are all very calculated. Remember Dems all laughing at Trump? Who had the last laugh there? Gabbard is a very dangerous demagogue. We underestimate her at our own peril.

“CAVUTO: Is it in our interests for Saudi Arabia — is it in our interests for Saudi Arabia to be protected or its kingdom to be protected? Or do you draw a distinction?”

So, she dodged the question. Is it in “OUR” (meaning NATO and other allies who absolutely depend on Saudi oil) interests for Saudi Arabia to be protected or its kingdom to be protected?

She needs to learn that “you stick with the devil you know”! True, NATO and the other allies need to figure out how best to protect their interests in this morass. But, since we’re the biggest dog in the alliances, we can’t just very well turn our back on the problem. As with the allies, Congress (collectively) also needs to pull their heads out of their asses and figure out what needs to be done, get-on-board as it were, because face it: whatever President Trump decides to do “will be the wrong thing” in their eyes. Congress needs to “buy into and have some skin in the game”.

???? It was the Wahhabi that took over Iran. Khomeini brought his Saudi friends in, they didn’t speak Farsi. They took control of Iran, with it all the military resources they needed. Who are the people driving all the Mercedes Benz around Tehran. Remove the Mullahs you will remove the bomb. The Iranian people are not like the Arabs, they are Persians and proud. They’ve been dealt a bad hand and are limited to recovering what they lost. The change has to come from within, not with an invasion from outside.

No. She won’t.
Saudis need to be taken out.
That happening is what is called a Windfall.
A sudden very very good thing.
Israel can then take out Iran on their dime.

Tulsi is the candidate the Democrats need, but (1) The Democrat establishment isn't going to anoint her, and (2) she is required to spew the 'rat trash, which makes her come off as a loon.

If left to her own devices, she would be a formidable candidate. But she hasn't been around long enough to absorb the full Democrat corruption, and they won't put a billion dollars into anyone unless they can be guaranteed a substantial cash return.

Gabbard served in the Army Medical Corp, (Combat Medical Badge) in Iraq and Kuwait.

Yes, she is familiar with the Middle East.

What is she up to?

She is up for election next year. So if she can not get the nomination or a cabinet position, she is running for reelection.

She talks political gibberish and double speak not even answering the question. I don't trust her at all. She is more of the Obama/Clinton/Kerry policy.

ALL of Islam is a very real threat to our civilization. I give zero sh*ts about what sect.

Her foreign policy is almost identical to Trump’s, but because she is running as a Dem (and on most other issues she is a Dem) she makes her agreement with him sound like an attack on him.

Our relations with the Saudis are more complicated than most people realize, but she is dead right about Wahhabism and the evil influence it has had on the Islamic world. Combine Saudi money, Saudi control of most of our top politicians, and Wahhabism, and you have a witch’s brew.

Congress needs to “buy into and have some skin in the game”

It's not CONGRESS that needs skin in the game. It is the People and the States, REPRESENTED by Congress, that HAVE skin in the game, which is why Presidents can't start wars.

It looks like THIS:

The President is hereby authorized and directed to employ the entire naval and military forces of the United States and the resources of the Government to carry on war against [Fill in the blank]; and, to bring the conflict to a successful termination, all the resources of the country are hereby pledged by the Congress of the United States.

She won’t go anywhere.

Oh, she'll go places, all right.

Just not as a Democrat.

Neither of the two arms of the Uniparty will survive the next decade.

Yet these vile Arabs cannot defeat half starved Yemenis or protect their homeland from the medieval mullahs

No event in the future history of the world is more predictable than the coming fall of the House of Saud, which will end with half the princes in Switzerland and the rest with their heads on pikes.

Our current engagement with SA is one of the most foolish acts in the history of our nation.

No. The Sunni jihadis (Al-Qaeda, ISIS, etc.) are wild, violent and stupid. With their beheadings and bomb attacks, they are able to persuade even lukewarm Western-European governments that something has to be done to stop them. They can be defeated by any competent army.

The Shia jihadis (The Mad Mullahs of Iran) are no less devoted to jihad, but they can think strategically. They know they can be stopped at any time if they are percieved as a threat. So they try to appear “reasonable” and concentrate on getting nukes. If they get nukes, who will stop them?

Guess what? They fooled Western-European governments and those governments want to send them money (as if the money Obama sent them weren’t enough).

Moronic.

The Saudis don't have nukes and would never think about using them against the US or Israel if they did.

Ms Gabbard’s only problem is her manner of criticizing the Wahabis seeks to pretend there is a giant religious and philosophical difference, from a Western perspective, between the Wahabis and the Mullahs of Tehran, which there is not.

The Wahabis and the Mullahs of Tehran are two sides of the same sixth century attitudes of fundamentalist Islam; a Shia side and a Sunni side. But that division is internal within Islam, while both sides are equal in their philosophical difference with Western society and culture.

A yet to be publicly reported issue is the vast Iranian underground in the United States, made up of thousands of supposed Iranian expats (many who are legal residents and/or legal residents now) among whom thousands are actually still supporters of the Mullahs in Tehran, and also contributors to American political campaigns. While Obama was working on his Iran deal, two of those folks worked in his administration in foreign policy forming positions.

I hope someone will investigate if that network of Iranians in the U.S. intersects at all with Ms Gabbard.
