A Florida Atlantic University poll released Wednesday shows President Trump narrowly leading his potential Democrat challengers in a hypothetical 2020 general election matchup.

The poll – conducted September 12-15 among 934 registered voters in Florida– showed the president narrowly leading his top Democrat challengers in a general election matchup in the Sunshine State.

According to the poll, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) appeared to be the most competitive challenger, losing to Trump 50.1 percent to 49.9 percent. Joe Biden (D) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) lose to the president by one point – 50.5 percent to 49.5 percent, the poll showed.

My money says it isn’t. FL is going to be a dogfight. Dems are already spending money here on ads. GOP, not at all.

dems have to waste money there - they have primaries and are losers (even if they win) so they need to try to twist people’s brains trying to entyce you into voting for loser people.

“Dems are already spending money here on ads. GOP, not at all.”

Why on earth would the GOP be wasting money on ads in September more than a year before the election that will be forgotten by the middle of October?

The Democrats have crowded primary. It would be stupid if there was no ads from them.

These are anti-Trump ads I am seeing in FL. On trade in particular. Who knows, maybe “Republicans” are paying for them.

OK, let’s create an environment where Trump supporters have to fear being harassed. Wearing a red hat might trigger a random lib. Displaying a bumper sticker or yard sign is inviting theft, road rage or vandalism. Expressing support might result in being thrown out of a favorite business or ostracized by “friends”.

Now let’s do a poll to see where voters stand.

Trump will win FL far more comfortably in 2020 than he did in 16.

He will outperform his 2016 numbers across the board.

The media wants it to be a race, but it won’t be... they will pretend it will be for the sake of keeping folks clicking and watching, but short of a total economic meltdown or another black swan event of that type of magnitude between now and next November, Trump will be re-elected by the largest EC margin since Reagan.

Best case for the Dems is around 15 states plus DC... depending on how whackadoo their nominee is, They may not even get 10 states and DC.

Florida's problems with elections are the same as most other states: the left has a stranglehold on the media, and most of our urban centers are socialist shitholes.

That said, for these apparatchiks to even mention a 'small lead' for Trump means, in reality, he is probably fifteen points ahead. Not that keeps us here from working like he's 20 points behind.

And as we have seen multiple times now, the democrats will maniacally reject any electoral result that is not in their favor. SSDD.

I agree. A poll of likely voters would usually increase Republican's tally.

It is fascinating that Elizabeth Warren is faring so well with her message which is a populist message and, because the definition of populism is so elastic, one can also say that Donald Trump's message is a populist message.

There are of course similarities in their complaints but their solutions vary in very important particulars. In essence, Warren wants more government to regulates evil corporations (her version of elitists) and Donald Trump obviously wants fewer regulations to free up markets and capitalism. Warren identifies big business as the enemy while Trump identifies miscarriages of government reproducing bad trade treaties and bad regulations as the enemy. A signal characteristic of populism is an appeal to control the "elites" on behalf of "the people." We have seen that in 2016 in Trump's campaign, when we exhorted Washington to drain the swamp. There were also echoes of this on our side in the Tea Party. No one, not even Donald Trump, better articulates the Trump brand of populism than Steve Bannon who identifies the elite as Davos, Wall Street, the City of London etc. Bannon and Warren are in full agreement, big-money elites need to be controlled. Warren wants the end result to be bigger government, Bannon wants smaller government as the end result.

Now comes Nathan Bedford's first maxim of American politics: all politics in America is not local but ultimately racial.

The left, Warren included, will seek as Democrats always have sought to win elections, by calling Republicans and Trump racists. This is because there has been a century long cleft in populism, one in which the nation is the expression of "the people" and another which claims that expressions of nationalism are inherently racist. This is why the left reacted so virulently when Trump professed himself to be a nationalist.

The effect on this election campaign will be the same as it is always been, Democrats demagoguing race, but this time it will have a slightly different twist. Bannon's answer, this brand of populism knows no color except the color of citizenship which comes in all colors. If you're a citizen you are preferred regardless of your color over illegal immigrants and citizens of other nations. This is an effective answer to the racism smear when it is well articulated.

Floriduh is always too close because of fraud. I wonder how much the vote totals would change if they made a law that returns announcements can only been made when all precincts are finished counting. I wonder what argument dhims would use to claim that would be racist

I agree. I have a family member, though not in Florida but more importantly, registered Democrat and gay. He tells me that he and his friends will all be pulling the lever for Trump. The main reason? Illegal immigration. Those non-traditional couples with a higher disposable income are tired of supporting the open border invaders. Interestingly, they seem to have a particular ire for Ilhan Omar. I haven’t really discussed why that is but I suspect they gay community is well aware of Islam’s view of homosexuality and since she portrays herself as the political face of Islam (others don’t wear the hijab), she attracts the ire.

Also FL is the #1 destination for Democrat voters coming from New York, Taxachusetts, Puerto Rico and elsewhere. Lot more of them now than in 2016.
