It’s like the “n” word when used by blacks. We get to say “Jew down,” but any goy (Oh, nose! I’m marked for life!) who uses the term bears the sign of Cain forever. Today Trenton. Tomorrow The Squad!/heehee
There are non-Democrats in Trenton who haven’t gone into hiding?
I wouldn’t think so but in NJ it could be the Green Party, Garbage Collectors Party, or Wannabe Wizeguyz Party.
I used to hear this decades ago, among high school friends. They are more enlightened now. Have not heard it in more than 30 years. It is not complimentary, that is for sure.
When my father died some years ago, my family was sitting shivah when a neighbor of my mother’s stopped by to pay her respects. The conversation turned to her daughter trying to buy a house and she mentioned that her daughter was trying to “Jew the seller down”. She looked up and saw our expressions and said “Oh I guess I shouldn’t have said that.” Of all places to use that term.
In my youth we used to use the term : “Jewish Bankroll” it was a bankroll of dollar bills with a Twenty on the outside...
I had business partners who were Israelis once...there is no doubt they were very good at whittling a deal down
I left that aspect of our endeavors to them and more than once was happy i was on the same side of the table
Its a compliment to me honestly
Jews
Arabs especially Lebanese
Armenians
Turks
Scots
Greeks
Indians to a degree
Koreans
Just a few ethnic groups known to drive a hard bargain
Tempest in a teapot and sure isnt some clarion call for genocide
I respect the notion. I have a Jewish partner in a California investment , in fact hes shotcaller while hes proven hes loyal and honest with me repeatedly when it cost him to do right yet hes no fool about costs in running the actual business
Im good with that ..
Tim Whatley: Oh, well, I didn't do much. I just sat in the sauna. You know, it was more like a Jewish workout. I'll see ya.
I believe her comment Jew down was more in reference to negotiating...”
Coming from the NYC area this expression was common place along with the reference of Upstate NY as the Jewish Alps.
It’s OK, they’re all Democrats. They can’t be anti-Semitic, just ask them and their media flunkies. Only Trump and the GOP can be anti-Jewish.
You forgot Gypsies. Is it complementary? Hardly, although as you say it isn’t a call to genocide. I’d differentiate between anti-Semites and Jew-haters. But so long as the Dems keep throwing the word “Nazi” and “Racist” and “anti-Semite” around at the drop of a hat, they are going to get back EXACTLY what they give. This bitch McBride is obviously a drunken Irishwoman in need of a paddy wagon(nyuknyuk), and until she sobers up and stops using bigoted slurs shouldn’t occupy any position of public trust.

I was gyp’d
My sisters first grade teacher calls my mom and asks, “ Mrs. Smith, I'm a little confused. I thought your family was Catholic but your daughter tells me different. She said you are Jewish.”
So my mom asks my sister why she would say such a thing and my sister says, “Well, I always hear you telling people how dad is always trying to Jew people down on prices”.
Needless to say, we still tell that story to embarrass my sister!
I am of Jewish ethnic background and if you said it to me I would _not_ be offended—I would actually start laughing at you if you blushed or started to apologize.
Real people need to get thicker skins!
What I have zero tolerance for is _any_ form of political correctness or censorship.
It’s ok to Jew someone down, as long as you don’t Welch on the agreedent, or be an Indian giver.
I’m getting old. One of my favorite jokes as a teen had the punchline that went something like “Well it was either that - or Jew him down.”
Of course I can’t remember the rest of the joke - it may have had something to do with St. Peter at the Pearly gates?
About the only bigoted jokes I do now are “Ole and Lena” jokes. My ancestry is all Norwegian.
I've heard it used a lot. Most people know what it means and it certainly isn't complimentary to Jewish folks.
Al Sharpton has used this phrase and NBC gives this bigot a tv show.
Its a very old expression. Call the pc police.
