We have 2 small 12 lb dogs who have the run of the house and they go off when they hear things that are not normal, but will shut up after a few seconds. Someone trying to enter the house they won’t. Last few nights they have alerted us to Coyotes of the animal type. If necessary the 12 gauge or the .38 Taurus Ultra Lyte would have come out.
I am reminded of an incident years ago in Oklahoma in which a homeowner had just cleaned his gun, loaded it, and at that moment several men kicked in his door.
It did not go well for them.

Yes, I would love to believe that this was some grandma protecting her family. But drug dealers are the ones most likely to be victims of this type of robbery. They are the ones most prepared to handle this type of situation in a way that leaves no loose ends. We had drug dealers living across the street from us and they had bars on all the lower windows, and cameras everywhere.
It does remind preppers that it is always a good idea to have a few extra ski masks or at least some women's stockings around the house for this type of incident. Even the FBI agents you drag back inside are going to look better with something covering their faces.
