I got into an argument with my college psychology prof. He argued that sexual urges like pedophilia could not be resisted and anyone with those urges would eventually abuse children. I said that sexual urges could be resisted (in my attempt to place moral blame on those who didn’t resist) but that pedophilia was considered do horrible that the only ones psychologists and psychiatrists saw were those who did commit crimes and were ordered by the courts to get treatment. Because of that psych doctors had no idea what proportion of pedophiles did abuse kids and which ones didn’t.
