Sen. Cruz said during the debate that the Grassley-Cruz legislation would have helped prevent the mass shooting in Odessa, Texas.
Milano then quoted former President Ronald Reagan, suggesting that Republicans have supported gun control the past. Reagan said:
I do not believe in taking away the right of the citizen to own guns for sporting, for hunting, and so forth, or for home defense. But I do believe that an AK-47, a machine gun, is not a sporting weapon or needed for the defense of the home.
Cruz fact checked Milanos use of the Reagan quote, saying Machine guns are functionally illegal right now.
The Texas senator added, the machine gun has been functionally illegal for 80 years, you and I cant purchase a machine gun.
Sen. Cruz also fact checked the notion that an assault weapon ban would help reduce gun violence, noting that when America had an assault weapons ban, the ban did not have a material impact on gun violence.
If we can agree the objective is to keep people safe, then Congress should push for Grassley-Cruz, Sen. Cruz charged.
Guttenberg said he could support Grassley-Cruz if it does complete the objectives he laid out during the debate.
Sen. Cruz also added that many leading Democrats, including former Congressman Beto ORourke (D-TX), have called for national gun confiscation via a gun buyback program.
After the debate, Cruz said that his debate with Milano and Guttenberg was productive and respectful and that legislation such as Grassley-Cruz could help solve the problem of gun violence.

Ted got a hug at the end.
Heidi says?
Was Ted a fan of her soft porn movie?
Gutenberg? The guy from the Police Academy films?
"Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) told actress and activist Alyssa Milano that he was a fan of Whos the Boss? and Commando, while she told him that his stance on gun reform has made you almost like this caricature of a villain."
Ted, Don't be so thirsty.
The citizenry general ARE supposed to constitute the defense of our USA, the militia, when the paid troops are not enough on the one hand, or are trying to take over the country on the other. And therefore, we commoners ought to have military arms also, good ones, not just plinkers or old shotguns for the fun of it. Alyssa needs to remember this also. It’s stated, right there in the 2nd Amdt.
A Parkland victim parent. Basically a prop to generate empty emotional distraction from a proper debate.
Cruze screwed up.
Machine guns are NOT “Functionally Illegal”!
There are a LOT of them in TX.
They ARE ridiculously expensive and time consuming to buy thanks to the artificial scarcity created by the UNCONSTITUTIONAL (What part of “Shall not be infringed” do you not understand?) NFA-34 $200.00 tax and UNCONSTITUTIONAL ban on new manufacture for CIVILIAN ownership “Amended” to the FOPA signed be R. Reagan.
BATF deliberately drags out the process to discourage purchase, often to a year or more.
Of course our Fed. masters and LE are exempt from these restrictions.
Not only do I NOT support ANY new “Law” regarding firearms, I’m still intent on seeing the “Brady” BS repealed.
Note my tagline!
Weve seen how good faith negotiations have failed now with 30,000+ gun laws that the left insisted that we needed- and the republicans went right along with it- slowly allowing our INALIENABLE RIGHTS to be eroded one law at a time- 30,000+ times now!
When is enough enough? The left just keep demanding more and more gun control laws- and the right just keep agreeing to more and more constitution violating laws-
Any woman who is capable and smart enough to be a director at Goldman Sachs is a good catch, plain or pretty. She seems to be a good mother too.
For example, an assault weapon use to be a fully automatic military firearm. Now most people think it is any rifle that “looks like a military rifle regardless of caliber or action/function. Actually a Washington State Initiative funded by out of state money redefined “assault weapon” to be any semi-automatic rifle regardless of caliber or what it looks like.
While Ted was “correct” gun control activists are all about illusion and emotion, not facts or truth.
He may have been referring to a law dating back to 1934 requiring stamps, etc.
The mis-named Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 banned the sale of new automatic weapons to civilians so nothing manufactured after 1986 can be owned by a civilian. The only automatic weapons that can be purchased are pre-1986 and now they’re ridiculously expensive because of it.
It all means that it’s basically impossible for an average American to buy a fully automatic weapon, so Cruz is correct in calling them “functionally illegal”. It’s technically possible but essentially impossible due to price and paperwork requirements, much like an American can technically own a Boeing 747 but how many actually do?
Yeah, Evenwas a “good mother” and look what that has gotten us.
Charmed, I sure. ;-)
Commando was a solid flick.
“FUNCTIONALLY illegal.”
As in, so difficult to acquire as to make them generally unavailable to the general public.
Terms like “Saturday Night Special” and “cop-killer bullets”, for example.
