Republican Dr. Greg Murphy has won the special election in North Carolina's 3rd Congressional District, where he will succeed the late Rep. Walter Jones (R), who passed away in February.
The Associated Press called the race with 44 percent of precincts reporting. Murphy had 59 percent of the vote while his opponent, Democrat Allen Thomas had 44 percent of the vote.
Murphy was expected to win the district, which leans heavily Republican. Jones had served 13 terms in the district and President Donald Trump won the district by 23 points in 2016.
The PVI for this district is R+12. The pathetic lying worthless media constantly conflates PVI with Trump's 2016 margin, even though they are two completely different things.
Just one problem here. Trump carried this district by 23 points in 2016. The GOP won it by 24 points tonight.
A district with an R+12 PVI went to the GOP by 24 points.
Get this... because the media won't talk about it ... Murphy outperformed President Trump's 2016 margin in the non-coastal counties by 4.5 points.
On top of that, Carteret and Dare County were slammed by Hurricane Dorian last week, and those are two very Republican leaning counties.
So essentially, despite being slammed with a hurricane, despite the media coverage, the GOP outperformed not only the PVI in this district, but also did 4.5% point better than President Trump 2016, in all but the battered coastal areas.
The rural areas are CRUSHING the rats.
Gee - I thought DRUDGE said it was “THIS CLOSE”...

Drudge was probably mentioning NC-09. The media is pretending NC-03 didn’t happen.
Wrong. Not 24. Only 14 points.
Never mind. Looking at wrong totals.
61.74-37.47 = 24.27.

Drudge got over taken by the GOP establishment. The greatest losers the world will ever see.
Yup. I don't think NC-03 was ever really in doubt for the Republican in this district. I was very nervous about NC-09, so Dan Bishop's victory is extra sweet.
Congratulations to Dr. Greg Murphy and Dan Bishop!! And to our President, for endorsing them.
