GOP 'Texodus' and Retirement Mania Makes Retaking the House Doubtful
PJ Media ^ | 09/07/2019 | Rick Moran

It's still more than a year before the 2020 election, but already there are 15 Republican House members who have announced their retirement.

Texas has been especially hard hit. No fewer than five Texas House members are retiring after this term. At least three of those districts are up for grabs next year.

Washington Examiner:

“We call it the Texodus,” Austin-based Democratic strategist Colin Strother told the  Washington Examiner. “The Republican power base in Texas has got to be worried. We are excited.”

Rep. Bill Flores’ announcement Tuesday that he would not seek a sixth term representing the state’s 17th District come amid a flood of House Republican retirements.

So far 15 GOP lawmakers have declared they will not run in 2020. A third of them are from Texas.

“The retirements are a mix of safe Republican districts as well as some swing districts, and those give us some consternation,” Texas Republican strategist Brendan Steinhauser told the Washington Examiner.

Campaign analysts said Democrats could pick up three of Texas seats now held by Reps. Will Hurd, Pete Olson, and Kenny Marchant, who announced their retirements over the summer.

Flores and fellow Texas Republican Rep. Mike Conaway, who announced his retirement in July, are from more solidly Republican districts.

Also from a solidly GOP district is 17-term Wisconsin member James Sensenbrenner, who announced his retirement Thursday.

The reasons these members are leaving has more to do with the loss of a Republican majority in the House than any sense of a "blue wave" heading their way.

CNN:

The retirements of Sensenbrenner and Flores are not, in a vacuum, all that big a deal.

Many of the retiring are Bush League Republicans who want the Democrats to retain control of the House.
Any way they can stall the restoration of the rule of law and our sovereignty, they will do.

They were ‘’ this close to having US become North Mexico.

The Democrats have Texas so gerrymandered that the Republicans can’t win every seat in the state.

The is a big reason why winning the elections we have this year is a huge deal - it can make the difference in getting further retirements or people hanging on hoping we can regain the majority, fundraising, and potential candidates deciding to throw their hat in the ring or sitting it out.

Yet our side is asleep at the switch - virtually no discussions nationally the talk radio circuit about these elections - not even the upcoming special elections. Quite a contrast to the wall to wall discussions about the special elections of the past such as GA-6. Without our “all hands on deck” attitude we may have lost some of those races. That attitude has all but disappeared. Rest assured, however, if we lose this year’s elections, the media will use it to get the Dems a huge shot in the arm going into 2020 with billions in free media.

Mention of Texas going blue usually is dismissed out of hand on FR.

Yeah without these retirements we’d never get better republicans in those seats. Even if they have to cycle dem for a term or two (unlikely for many especially in non-presidential election years), worth it to get conservatives in there. We are running against the uniparty here.

Good point, we have to get rid of people who support open borders and amnesty.

After looking over this field of communists who call themselves democrats, if any one of them is the nominee, it’s possible that President Trump will have coat tails regarding the House and Senate races.

Well unfortunately, a TREMENDOUS power shift of power in our country has occurred and the courts have been the takers of that power.

So at the least, we keep Trump and the senate and the SCOTUS is ours for a generation.

Not to mention all the other slots Trump is filling.

It is what it is. My historically safe R district (Staten Island and part of Brooklyn) was overwhelmed by Russian and Asian and Albanian people who vote left (the Brooklyn part killed us).

Even without all the cheating that is going to happen, it was going to be hard to get majority again.

Committee chairman term limits have been a disaster for the House GOP. It has needlessly promoted turnover to the point that there are no experienced GOP pols to exert any control over the far left civil service.

Blame a lot of this on the incompetent leadership of the House by Rep. Paul Ryan and in the Senate, Turkeybrain McConnell back in 2016. They abandoned good conservatives who had a chance of retaining GOP seats (had this in Virginia, damn them) as well as elsewhere.

The Left never sleeps. They are more than well-funded by Soros, Rockefeller and other leftist foundations, pro-illegal immigration groups who also get their funds from Soros and the “immigration lobby”, sanctuary city leftists, and various Marxist parties and organizations, esp. the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

The GOP had better get off its soft ass and get into the streets with door-to-door volunteers bringing a conservative “success” message to areas they have never been in before.

We need new blood, including military service people (i.e. combat vets like my son and son-in-law), as well as high school kids who see the evil of the Left in their own schools and neighborhoods.

If my granddaughter, at age 8, could call over 100 people on the phone on behalf of then governor-candidate Ken Cuccineli, then there certainly are other kids out there who can do some campaigning, if only on their own block.

We’ll be out during the coming year. Will you?

But it’s definitely heading that way. TX Republicans are dying at a fast rate, but the illegal population continues to boom.

I have been watching this unfold for personal reasons.

I was seriously thinking about moving to Texas post-retirement, but I am now convinced that is not the best move.

What will Texas look like in twenty years?

Don’t know—but don’t like the trends...

Partner, we still can stop Illegal Immigration but we need the will to do it.

Just look at the counties next to Mexico in Texas since they all voted for the communist Rat party.

We need to stop all Anchor babies in becoming automatic citizens since they will vote for the Communist Rat party.

We need the Southern Border Wall built very quickly.

Republicans can do this too. They are lazy. Notice out of all house seats stolen, they locus on a republican one from North Carolina so they now can scream republicans are thrives. Democrats fight. Republicans await invitations to cocktail parties.

? Gerrymandering is done by those who have majority in statehouse. Republicans made the district lines in Texas.

Many are old and need to retire. I mean everyone crying over Sensenbrenner is crazy. He was in the house 40 years.

"Republicans made the district lines in Texas."

"Affirmative action" law REQUIRES a bias toward "minority-majoiry" districts. So those Republicans had to keep an eye over their shoulders to the federal courts.
