Senator Majority Leader McConnell, Do something: Protect the Bill of Rights!

Bill of Rights

In a recent editorial, the Washington Post calls on Senate Majority Leader McConnell to “Do something.”

The editorial lists names of people killed in the last 20 years in mass public murders that involve guns. All of them easily fit on less than one page of the Post. The writer calls for action, out of emotion, and nothing else but emotion. From the Washington post:

The list below, far from comprehensive, is tragic, in part, because it is so far from inevitable. No, no single law would end gun violence. But there are reasonable, obvious measures that would help. For example: Ban the sale of military-grade assault weapons. Unneeded by civilians, they are a blight on the nation, their ready availability a national disgrace. Eliminating them would slow the growth of this list. It would save lives.

There are many falsehoods and misstatement of fact in the above paragraph. It is unknown what a “military-grade” assault weapon is. No “assault weapons” used in the U.S. military are readily available for sale to U.S. residents. The AR-15 semi-automatics sold in the United States are not issued to the U.S. military, nor are AK47 semiautomatic clones. Details are important in legislation.

It is far from obvious that an unconstitutional ban on “military-grade” “assault weapons” would reduce mass public killings one iota. Most of them do not involve semi-automatic rifles; the involvement of semi-automatic rifles appears to have increased as the media has promoted the idea they were the firearm of choice in public mass killings.

The Left has always hated the idea of limits on government power.

The fact of the matter is that there is not a politician in Washington, R or D, who would not be happy to see every American dis-armed.

“It is unknown what a “military-grade” assault weapon is.”

I strongly disagree, What the BATF has defined as a military Assault Weapon is very clear. If it is not designed to be capable of full automatic fire as an option then it is not, if it can then it is.

Time to make them prove that these mislabeled weapons are purposely designed for sale to civilians as capable of operating as full automatic without already well defined illegal alterations.

Some day, dems will again be in power. Expect them to eviscerate the constitution.

It is far from obvious that an unconstitutional ban on “military-grade” “assault weapons” would reduce mass public killings one iota.

The Constitution says nothing about "military-grade" "assault weapons". Nor does it guarantee safety.

What the Constitution does is protect the right of The People to keep and bear arms. This is an individual right. And because the Constitution even gave an example of the use of the right; "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state..." it can be inferred that this includes any weapon that can be wielded by an individual. This includes so called "military-grade" "assault weapons".

It's time to push back. Government restriction of civilian ownership of arbitrarily classified "military grade" "assault weapons" is and always has been unconstitutional. Ownership and use of them is a personal right. Government's responsibility and duty is to enforce the law when people's rights are infringed.

Remember, government does not have rights. It only has the limited authority that We, The People have permitted it.

After the left attacked him and his wife, Mitch has been very helpful.

Wait until RGB assumes room temp. Then the left will feel the full measure of their folly.

I am pretty sure you mean RBG (Ruth Bader Ginsburg). I get your point.

The only people who do not make mistakes are those who do nothing. That is the biggest mistake of all.

I can’t afford to shoot a military grade assault weapon. Even one with a bump stock. I’m still in charge of how much it costs to shoot my semi-auto guns with each pull of the trigger.

Have any of our esteemed GOP Senators submitted a Bill mandating Constitutional Carry in all 50 States?

This isn’t a States Rights Issue as some have argued, the Right to Bear Arms is a vital part of our Federal Constitution, the foundation of our Republic.

Of course, Politicians cannot even explain what the term “Shall Not Be Infringed” means or wonder why our Founding Fathers decided that only ONE Constitutional Amendment contains that language.

"...What the BATF has defined as a military Assault Weapon is very clear...."

Lincoln's preserved Union central government can define anything they like as a military assault weapon.

Where is the list of all the people who saved themselves and their families during the last twenty years by using firearms to defend themselves?

That list would literally have the names of countless millions of people.

There’s a term for decisions made based on emotion. They’re called “knee jerk” and they usually don’t solve the problem but make make matters worse. On the other hand, Democrats base their entire agenda for this country based on emotion and propagandize fear to sway the people but theirs is not knee jerk. It is well planned and carries severe consequences for our liberty and the future of our country. Hope we the people don’t let the globalist controlled democrats and the DC establishment take what many have given their lives to preserve for the rest of us.

And that is the problem, they keep trying but it is all false. I could attach that furniture to a shovel handle, but it doesn’t make the shovel a military style assault weapon. With or without, it is still just a shovel.
