I have high-school classmates who were bigtime dope fans who today are washing dishes and driving cabs.

"I go flying so high, when I'm stoned."

We know about the effect that it will have on elections and constitutional rights.

I smoked acres and acres of weed in college while all the time voting straight down the line pro-2A conservative Republicans.

I don’t know why people make a big deal about more potent cannabis. It’s like comparing hard alcohol to beer. One simply needs to use less of it to achieve the same effect.

'More potent weed' is merely a Reefer Madness talking point - Drug Warriors hear it cited as an anti-pot argument and parrot it as such.

Ditto for alcohol.

Do we really need another rash of “too young to die” stories?

There is no known human-fatal dose of THC.

Some of them [mass shooters] were potheads.

Yes - and millions of Americans use pot and don't commit mass murder.

The dope cheerers on this site

There are no such people - only consistent conservatives who say that in our Land of the Free adults must have the liberty to make unwise choices such as using marijuana, tobacco, or alcohol.

All these doped up morons are going to start killing people soon.

ROTFLMAO! For decades millions of Americans have been using marijuana - and only a handful of them have killed anyone.

"Reefer Madness" was not a documentary.

North America is already suffering from an obesity and stupidity epidemic

Should the federal government ban fattening foods to combat obesity?

If I was graduating with a degree in some hugely paying major like transgender studies or zoology of the sex habits of the Australian wombat, and it was leaving me in six figure debt I’d get stone too.

Exactly, easiest way to drown out your troubles - just mellow out

Its best to understand that the biochemistry of human thought is not understood. The brain is 90% phospholipids. Just how those lipids churn up there to make the higher intellectual functions of humans possible is the great scientific quest of the new millennium. Almost all medications, legal and illegal, used to modify or “treat” human behavior patterns is at best at its core Edisonian empiricism. Some chemicals “work” and other not only don’t but have some unpleasant side effects. Marijuana defenders can say what they want to justify and placate. However if you merely review what has happened to Western civilization over the past fifty years, it does not take a CDC genius to note that the decline closely parallels the extent that drug use has become common in the population. Simply not wise to ignore or trivialize if your young loved ones habitually use marijuana.

None such here - only defenders of adult liberty to unwisely use marijuana.

can say what they want to justify and placate.

My post did neither, but simply contextualized some implied pot-makes-you-kill hysteria.

However if you merely review what has happened to Western civilization over the past fifty years, it does not take a CDC genius to note that the decline closely parallels the extent that drug use has become common in the population.

It also does not take a CDC genius to understand that correlation is not causation - nor that US marijuana use has declined sharply since its peak in the Sixties.

Simply not wise to ignore or trivialize if your young loved ones habitually use marijuana.

I have not done so.

The feds should subsidize nothing - fattening foods, healthy foods, alcohol, marijuana, tobacco, ...

I read an article that False Memory Syndrome is real, and that marijuana use makes it much more likely that a person will have it. It does seem that over the past few years lots of people are succumbing to false memories both about their own experiences and things in the past.

It's a mind-control thing, and it's pretty scary. So many people I interact with accept anything that's trendy from the media or from people who represent the decadent, fantasy-driven mindset that has become their world.

What you have done is clearly and unmistakably demonstrated the amoral absurdity of libertarianism. You will not condemn and will certainly not act to prevent self destructive individual behavior if it is done voluntarily by that individual. Libertarians never accept the corroding and at times horrific effects to society when they exercise their haughty indifference. A reasonable, livable social consensus is not possible when the culture becomes indifferent to debasement. Sorry but however unpleasant and confrontational it may be, judgments are necessary. Also it should be noted that if the Left achieves the power it desires, bewildered libertarians will be the first to go. Perhaps in that final moment of clarity they will comprehend how their absurdity led to their fate.

You will not condemn

I noted it as unwise - and do condemn the use of any substance to the point that one becomes chronically nonfunctional.

and will certainly not act to prevent self destructive individual behavior if it is done voluntarily by that individual.

Overeating is self destructive - but it's gross nanny-statism to say I should act to prevent it (although I should and do condemn it).

A reasonable, livable social consensus is not possible when the culture becomes indifferent to debasement. Sorry but however unpleasant and confrontational it may be, judgments are necessary.

Judging against debasement does not require the use of government force. The conflation of society with government clearly and unmistakably demonstrates the absurdity of nanny-statism.

Nope, you are wrong.

There are FReepers who comment here on almost every MJ post who tout the “harmlessness” of marijuana, and even the “helpfulness” of it. Many are avid dope smokers, and proudly proclaim that have been from a very tender age, with no alleged harm to their health or mental well being.

They deny the undeniable externalities of dope legalization in jurisdictions which have experienced marked spikes in traffic accidents and fatalities, increase in youth starting on pot, and the general vagrancies which plague formerly pleasant vacation destinations, now reduced to pot Meccas.
