Japan will not join a US-led security mission to protect merchant vessels passing through key Middle Eastern waterways, but will consider deploying its naval force independently, the Yomiuri newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Citing unidentified government sources, the Yomiuri said Japan was considering a plan to send its Maritime Self-Defense Force (SDF) on information-gathering missions in the areas around the Strait of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab shipping lane between Yemen, Djibouti and Eritrea.

It would also consider including the Strait of Hormuz in the SDF’s sphere of activity if Iran agrees, the paper said, according to Reuters.

Looks like we might even see the Japanese navy get in on the action in the strait of Hormuz. It's interesting that at this point, they would not be joining the US-led forces.

Maybe we can become energy independent and not have to spend our money protecting shipping half the world away?

From the article:

"Iran has denounced US efforts to set up the coalition and says countries in the region can protect waterways and work toward signing a non-aggression pact."

Jizya for oil ?

Japan is the peacemaker here.

They are thoroughly allied with us for security purposes.

Yet they stand to lose a lot if there is a disruption in oil supplies as Japan has none of its own and the world’s 2nd largest economy to run.

Both sides have reason to trust Japan and I would not be surprised if Iran allows them to operate as an independent force whereas operating as part of the US force would be out of the question.

signing a non-aggression pact.

Now where have we heard that before? Seems even the phraseology of history repeats.

I wonder what portion of their oil Japan buys from the US.

Who should be buying “our” oil and also Canada’s and whomever else, is Germany, instead of having that Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

Japan NEEDS Middle East oil, which predominately means the Saudis and their Gulf friends way more than other sources.

In the Persian Gulf? Let those who genuinely rely on the oil to protect it. Why should we continue to, on our dime?

“We are America...... we protect our allies.”

Japan can afford this all on their own. Time for us to stop playing World Cop. Japan can buy their oil from us instead of propping up a bunch of 7th century savages.

“That is not for you to decide”

Actually it kind of is. See, here in America we get to vote on things. I voted for the guy who promised to get us out of these idiotic, endless, useless, foreign wars. You may remember he also promised to get our erstwhile “allies” to pull their own frigging weight for the first time in nearly a century.

Around 64,000,000 other Americans voted for him, too.

And, miracle of miracles, that guy actually won! It was kind of a big deal when it happened. Maybe you remember it. Maybe not, I don’t know.

So in a way I and those 64,000,000 other Americans do have a bit of a say in things whether you like it or not.

So there’s that.

Well no. We elect representatives and they decide

They have decided not to follow your misguided isolationist whims
