After maps struck down in NC gerrymandering lawsuit, top Republican leader won’t appeal

North Carolina’s political maps for the state legislature are unconstitutional and must be redrawn before the 2020 elections, a court has decided.

A panel of judges struck down the maps Tuesday, in a 357-page ruling that focused on the level of political partisanship used to draw them. The maps were drawn in 2017 to replace previous maps, drawn in 2011, that had also been ruled unconstitutional. Both sets of maps were drawn by North Carolina’s Republican-led legislature.

The judges found that “The North Carolina Supreme Court has long and consistently held that ‘our government is founded on the will of the people,’ that ‘their will is expressed by the ballot.’”

I am so pissed! We are getting absolutely screwed all over the place. Nobody cares that California has given Republicans just 5 seats out of 55 or so. I mean this is really getting ridiculous. And as always the Republicans just don't care. They bent over for Pennsylvania. Democrats are probably taking Virginia in 2019 and now North Carolina will probably give Democrats even more seats in the House and state. Disgusting!!!!

Count AZ in, too!

Back in ‘the 00’s’, the people of AZ voted to have a Commission of 2 R’s, 2 D’s and 1 I to redraw District maps. Sadly for AZ, the I that was appointed by Gob Brewer was really a D. The 3 D’s met in secret (illegal), drew up their own map (illegal), voted on the map (illegal) and went forward implementing it. Brewer sued to stop the map and a D judge threw out Brewer’s lawsuit. This is how Sinema won her first (gerrymandered) House seat. From where she could vote moderately (after being a loud Communist just a few short years before) then launch her Senate candidacy several months before the Primaries (sounds illegal and there was an actual D who ran against her in their Primary, but Sinema had been advertising her ‘moderate’ voting record for months and the other D was swamped). Arizona has become so sleazy. But I was hoping NC would turn out differently. So sad.

Same GOP caving happened in Pennsylvania.

The SCOPA had already hired a consultant from Californicate to redraw the maps before they had even heard the case.

Didn’t Scotus rule on this a few months ago instructing courts to butt out?

Sad. The left never stops fighting for every inch regardless of electoral results. OTOH, The Surrender Party never stops surrendering.

May not amount to a fart in a tornado. but I've felt somehow 'cleaner' since switching my party affiliation to none/independent after the CF nomination of that turncoat pussy mormon shithead Romney.

The DNC has successfully gamed the system. We are losing state after state. Trump may not win again. What happened during the Midterms was pure theft and the GOP rolled over. This is partly why they are so furious that Clinton lost. They thought they had her in the bag.

I can attest to your observation.

The left simply has no morals or ethics.

What they did in Arizona was, literally a crime, but we could not get the courts to enforce it.

Never, never create an "independent" body to draw up district maps.

We were completely messed up when the "independent" showed themselves as partisan leftists.

We are losing state after state. Trump may not win again.

Those are only related in the sense that Trump voters can overcome geryymandering. if htey turn out. In 2018 there were more non-Trump voters and the gerrymanders worked for the D's. Even some R gerrymanders went to D's.

But if Trump get outs the vote, that gerrymandering won't stop us from taking back the House, easily.

If they bring it to the SCOTUS, the republicans would win.
