The CBP didn’t say to whom the parts were being shipped, who shipped them,

I just wonder who in the Federal Government they are trying to protect.

Huh? There was 52M parts, with a combined value of more than $378,000...? So about $7.27 per piece? OMG so glad the Feds are on top of this! Such debauchery!

Not all US companies. Many retailers, yes. But there are many ‘made in the US’ sources for gun builds. You will pay more, but they won’t be cheap parts the break when ‘exercised’.

"...arrived in three shipments and had a combined value of more than $378,000..."

I guessing that the figure is not from an estimated total of retail prices. They might have simply stated the Chinese price total, so that might be about x5 for retail. ..."three shipments."

It will be a big flag up for other importers. Most of the AR and AK sights, furniture, buffer parts and other accessory parts by far are made in China, and some of those are popular, expensive brands. We may see a run on quite a few items that many had assumed were made in America.

"But there are many ‘made in the US’ sources for gun builds."

"For gun builds," yes. ;-)

It will be a good time for those old timey classic AR companies that manufacture and sell classic AR15 and M-16 parts. And where will the prices go for the EOTech sights and Swedish-made Aimpoint sights?

And there's the talk of gun control again. I'll watch the show for sure. The last couple of years have already been real good for sales again.

Mak90s were the highest quality import builds in their day. Most accurate AK I’ve ever owned

If you don’t hold value for a Chinese Norinco mak90, I question your understanding of AK quality. Until fairly recently, they were top tier.

Honestly, since I got back into riding bikes a couple of years ago, I haven’t devoted much time into staying on top of all things firearms.

A lovely day - do I go to the range or do I spend the day getting wind therapy on the Scout? The Scout has been the winner most of the time.

Perhaps when it’s a little too cold to ride this winter I will spend some quality time with my other “friends”.

Maybe, but that doesn’t make up for all the counterfeit parts sold on eBay. Try a counterfeit minimalist MFT ar15 stock for 10 bucks vs the real thing at 50 bucks as a quick example. They are sold as the real thing but they are like Mattel toys by some Chicom with a 3D printer. They get your 10 US dollars and you get a piece of crap that won’t last 10 minutes at the range.

If I know I am buying a Chinese gun, it’s on me. Counterfeit parts are on them.

My point is not everything they build is crap, like the Norinco plant. Not many manufacturers square the barrels up to the action with a robot who presses it perfectly into place with .0002” of runoff. I was a competition shooter in my younger days, running almost exclusively the Kalashnikov platform. My mak90 has been rebarelled after I shot away it’s rifling over 16 or so years. Anyone who calls Norinco crap has no idea what they’re talking about. Polytech as well.
