MANCHESTER, N.H. — Former Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski leads the 2020 Republican U.S. Senate field in a new poll conducted this week by one of the president’s top pollsters and released by a friend and ally of Lewandowski.

The poll of 400 likely Republican Senate primary voters was conducted by Trump campaign pollsters Tony Fabrizio, David Lee and Travis Tunis for David Bossie, the president of the Citizens United advocacy group who co-authored two books about Trump with Lewandowski.

It showed prospective candidate Lewandowski as the choice of 30 percent of those surveyed, with retired Brig. Gen. Donald Bolduc at 11 percent, former New Hampshire House Speaker Bill O’Brien at 10 percent and attorney Bryant “Corky” Messner at 1 percent, with 49 percent undecided. Bolduc and O'Brien are declared candidates for the seat held by Democratic incumbent Jeanne Shaheen, while Messner is exploring a run.

The poll was first reported earlier Tuesday by POLITICO.

Lewandowski was viewed favorably by 37 percent and unfavorably by 15 percent of those polled, while 16 percent had no opinion and 32 percent never heard of him.

Bolduc, a political newcomer, was unknown to 64 percent of those polled, viewed favorably by 16 percent and unfavorably by 3 percent. O’Brien was unknown to 55 percent, viewed favorably by 16 percent and unfavorably by 10 percent.

If Lewandowski runs -- and he has said he is “very seriously” considering it -- it’s possible, if not probable, that he would be endorsed by Trump, who is coming to New Hampshire on Thursday for a rally at the SNHU Arena in Manchester.

Among the many questions being asked by Republicans in the buzz surrounding the president’s visit is whether he will endorse or express his hope that Lewandowski runs.

I don’t believe polls on either side anymore, but to unseat a New England democrat senator is always a good thing.

That would be great! I really like that guy, and it would be good to have him on PDJT’s side.

The pollster did not conduct general election match-ups against Shaheen, who is seeking a third term.

And there in lies the rub. Lewandowski may lead a field of no-names for the nomination but that doesn't mean he has much of a chance of taking the seat.

Kelly Ayotte, I thought, was at least borderline eye candy. Her narrow defeat had at least as much to do with jealousy as politics.

Whoever came up with the saying that Washington, DC was Hollywood for ugly people was really on to something.

As governor, she vetoed a voter ID bill. She is the Abortion Queen of NH.

No, her borderline defeat was caused by her unwillingness to endorse the Republican Presidential Candidate.

A lot of Trump backers just didn’t vote for a Senate candidate.

And, she was just McCain’s lap poodle.

Precisely. Kelly Ayotte made the foolish decision to try to distance herself from Trump, thinking that she would pick up some "independents". She even bought the whole faked up story about what Trump had to say about women who lower their inhibitions when in the presence of rich and famous men.

Ms. Ayotte didn't endorse Trump, and she lost support among true Republicans in New Hampshire who would not vote for a RINO opponent to our soon to be next president.

We need a strong, pro Trump candidate in New Hampshire. Corey would be a great choice, as would Don Bolduc in terms of values and politics, but Corey has much more experience and expertise organizing a winning campaign.

Kelly Ayotte came within 600 votes of keeping the seat for another 6 years. Shame on the GOP voters of NH.

2020 will be the year of conservative candidates who boldly support Trump. It could be a watershed moment for our country. Let’s hope the RNC and the state’s have their acts together and are getting behind great candidates now.

It’s the only chance we have at all. I’d take 20 percent chance over zero anyway.

This is a PRIMARY poll.... has NOTHING to do with unseating the incumbent.

Forgive me if I don’t get too excited about WHO will win the primary.

Unless you can show me that they have a real shot against the incumbent Democrat, it really doesn’t matter.

LIke it or not the biggest indicator of who is going to win a race, is who is the incumbent. They win the race well over 90% of the time.

Sununu is the only one with a shot to beat Shaheen. I like Corey but he should have run for the NH house seat, which he could win.

This is the Alan Keyes syndrome, always running for a seat you won’t win, while a seat you could win lies dormant.
