WASHINGTON — Under intense pressure to take action on gun safety in the wake of two weekend massacres, Senator Mitch McConnell, the majority leader, expressed a new willingness Thursday to consider a measure expanding background checks for all gun purchasers, saying it will be “front and center” in a coming Senate debate on how to respond to gun violence.

“There is a lot of support for that,” he said.

Mr. Art of the Deal doesn’t need to offer any deals with our gun rights. It’s like this: White Supreemism is a mental disorder; supporting Trump is White Supreemism, therefore, RED FLAG, therefore, Trump supporters have to hand over their guns. “Red flag” laws are a non-starter. The President needs to hear from us in the coming few weeks. NO deals with our 2A rights.

Something needs to be done when a kid in HS makes a kill and rape list as a minor and the school, parents and police do nothing except suspend the kid for 30 days. The school destroyed the list. He turned 18 and nothing on his record followed him.

A kill list and rape list? He should have been a prohibited person.

On the contrary. McConnell, as are so very many Republicans (and far too many conservatives), are paralyzed with their fear of the Democrat Party/Left ... scared nearly out of their minds. So instead of facing that fear —“manning up”, that is — McConnell prefers to give in to the Left’s demands hoping against hope that then the Left will leave him alone; maybe even respect him. McConnell — as do all in the Republican caucus — damn well knows that will never happen; that it will be viewed as a sign of weakness by the sworn enemies of our Republic and of our Constitution ... but he’ll do it anyway because he is so very afraid ... even at the cost of the U.S. Senate! ... And many Republicans in the House and Senate will go along with this dereliction of duty.

The easiest way to cover his situation is to preclude all ‘rats younger than 30 from purchasing any weapons [including hammers].

Part of me wants to see an assault weapons ban (save the sporks) just to prove it won’t work. Maybe we could put in a one year test ban. It won’t work.

Well, at this point I am willing to say it's all chatter, just like with all the 'dreamers' stuff that never gets off the ground. I remember when it looked like Trump was caving during a public round table. In truth, he was just setting them up to fail.

I will, however, say that if Trump allows the Pubbies to pass some bullshit bill and he signs it... he and the Senate are gone.

Already happened and proven not to work.

Take away the guns and the nuts will move to something else like a vehicle.

There were four stabbed just this week.

Evil will find a way to hurt people.

NONONONONONO!
the ONLY new firearms law Congress should pass
is one repealing all of their existing illegal “gun control laws” and regulations

If cocaine Mitch passes Universal intergalactic background checks out of the Senate, which is nothing but a gun registration Bill, and Trump signs it, several things will happen. 1, Trump will lose in 2020. 2, millions of us will not comply, and we will still lend guns to our children and friends, and we will buy and sell them amongst ourselves. We may even do it in front of the politicians and rub their noses in it. 3. We will effectively be at war.

How is it a federal matter for two private citizens to conduct a sale of a legal product between themselves?

I'm not understanding...

Every gun...I've bot from a dealer...I've been asked to fill out out paperwork...and it was sent off to somewhere...and they confirmed I was okay, legal, a good citizen to own it.

Yes, there’s usually a gap between what he says and what he does. My concern is the use of “red flag” in his rhetoric. That’s a little too specific for comfort. Hoping for the best.

I agree. If they play “let’s make a deal” on guns, he and the Senate are gone.
