The White House is on the verge of taking steps to protect thousands of Venezuelans living in the United States from deportation, even as it finds new ways to restrict the ability of asylum-seekers from other countries to claim refuge in the U.S.

The proposal was confirmed by a senior administration official and other U.S. officials familiar with the matter, and it could include work permits. It is controversial inside the Trump administration, which has sought to restrict immigration, and could provoke a backlash from some of Trump's allies. But the administration says it does not want to put Venezuelans in danger.

People who are accustomed to thinking of socialism as the norm tend to stay that way.

We should at least put them in classes which show that socialism, not just who is the current ruler of Venezuela, is the problem.

The people who are coming across the border are not asylum seekers, at least not real asylum. They are here for economic reasons.

Venezuelans fleeing from the communist regime are actually legitimate refugees.

As were the people from European communist countries.

They all learned English, got jobs, paid their taxes.

If that’s true, then half the world’s population has a claim to asylum. That’s the number of people who live under dictators of one kind or another.

You think the population of China should be allowed to move here for asylum? Chinese didn’t vote their communist rulers into power. Venezuelans did vote theirs in

Trump is also talking about sending warships to Venezuela. What happened to fixing our problems at home - and our own border first? I didn’t support Trump from day 1 in order to get the foreign policy of Bolton and McCain

Why are Venezuelan refugees more deserving that other nation's refugees?
