China is blaming the US for the Hong Kong protests. Can that really be true?

The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday accused the United States of influencing the increasingly violent pro-democracy protests that have rocked Hong Kong for two months.

"As you all know, they are somehow the work of the US," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a press conference in Beijing.

Hua added that China would "never allow any foreign forces" to interfere in the semi-autonomous city, and warned that "those who play (with) fire will only get themselves burned."

The comments are one of the most direct accusations Beijing has so far made of US interference in Hong Kong politics, and follow months of speculation inside China that Western forces have had a hand in the movement.

Protesters have been seen waving American flags at some of the demonstrations.

Chinese state media has run multiple editorials blaming the US for the chaos. The state-run tabloid Global Times alleged Monday that there had been "unprecedented levels of contact" between Hong Kong pro-democracy leaders and Western governments.

"It is an open secret in Hong Kong that the forces protesting the extradition bill have been sponsored by the US," the paper said.

North Korea has also leveled such claims at the US. In an editorial on Friday, state-run media Rodong Sinmun claimed the protests were the "outcome of a plot hatched by the US and other Western countries."

However, neither country has provided any evidence for its allegations. At the press conference, Hua only made reference to public meetings between well-known Hong Kong pro-democracy leaders and US politicians.

We couldn’t even do it right in Venezuela - how could we persuade the far more intelligent Hong Kongers to act up if they were unwilling?

(EXCERPT)

China’s official newspaper The China Daily has accused the CIA of being behind “extreme acts” by Hong Kong protesters in an editorial warning Beijing has the capability to bring Hong Kong under control.

The editorial on Friday came as the Chinese propaganda machine stepped up the rhetoric against protesters this week, after the Chinese national emblem was defaced at Beijing’s office in Hong Kong during protests dispelled with tear gas and rubber bullets on Sunday.

Amid the wave of patriotism, the Chinese consulate in Brisbane issued a statement praising students who responded to “anti-China and secessionist protests” at the University of Queensland on Thursday, the nationalist Global Times newspaper reported.

While it is possible, I would hope we aren’t seeding this.

There really isn’t anything in it for us to get the population of Hong Kong to wave US flags of anything but their own volition.

I suspect China has no choice but to say this politically and the flags are likely entirely organic from the population. They are a very effective statement of “we believe in freedom” without having to use so many words.

Clearly it isn’t a whole lot more than that from our perspective. We are not going to invade China, or try to take over Hong Kong even if the population wanted it there is nothing we can or should do on that front. It’s a statement, nothing more.

A statement that CHINA should change.

China holds the world record for mass murder, so their assertions of truth are suspect.

If you see them waving the flag of the Republic of China, that’s when heads will roll. When the ROC’s flag is seen on the mainland, it will mean interesting times.

The existence of the United States is a threat to tyranny everywhere. This has been true since 1789.

China is creating a straw man to allow the PLA to invade and crush the HK protestors. JMHO

Exactly. If the US FLAG gets the chinks panties in a twist, so be it. They LIE to us on business for the past 40 years and it took Trump tariffs to shut their yaps up..

“” “” China holds the world record for mass murder, so their assertions of truth are suspect.”” “”

How are these two statements connected?
Yes, China hold the record for murder and US is behind unrest. The latter is among other factors.

The franchise went to globalists soon after WWII indeed. Last time it worked with Germany and Japan.
Works quite the opposite way ever since.
