Marianne Williamson defends past statements about antidepressants in contentious CNN interview

Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson defended controversial comments she has made in the past about mental health and antidepressants during a contentious interview Thursday.

The self-help author is under increased scrutiny after she received positive reviews for her debate performance this week in Detroit, during which she called the Trump administration a "dark psychic force."

“Not all drugs numb you or mask you," Anderson Cooper asked Williamson, referencing comments she had made about antidepressants. "And telling a seriously depressed person that taking an antidepressant they’re going to be numbed — isn't that not a good message?”

I have to agree with her to an extent. While I certainly would not discourage the treatment of true clinical depression, we are largely an over-medicated society. People want to feel good all the time. Sadness and grief are natural emotions and learning how to deal with them is part of normal, healthy human development. IMHO, too many people now find it too difficult to make that spiritual journey through times of despair, finding it much easier to take a pill.

Williamson accused Anderson Cooper of not letting her speak and not giving her enough time to express her point of view.

“isn’t that not a good message?”

Hard to answer a question phrased like that, isn’t it not?

The drug industry needs more billions in its bank accounts.

Fill the little boys up with Ritalin, the little girls up with gardasil, and everyone up with prozac.

In my consciousness research I can generally tell if a person is on antidepressants without them saying a word.

Just as worry lowers consciousness and antidepressants block a person from lowering their consciousness with worry, antidepressants also block a person’s ability to raise their consciousness in prayer.

I do a simple demonstration with people to show the effect of prayer. If a person is on antidepressants they can pray for an hour and there is no change.

It is fascinating that someone like Marianne Williamson finds a receptive audience among Democratic voters this years. They (the Democrats) have been rendered zombies and she certainly speaks a language that they have been conditioned to understand.

I have had friends who committed suicide due to the pain of depression (pre-Prozac). I think an antidepressant might have given them enough of a respite from the pain to regain some semblance of the balance they needed to find their way again.

On the other hand, there is plenty of room for over-reliance on antidepressants in our society. Antidepressants clearly numb society to it dysfunction.

Well, Anderson Cooper is obviously guilty of sexism and must immediately apologize or be fired... sarc maybe/

I flipped past this last night and caught a few minutes - Anderson Cooper was hounding her very aggressively. Got the impression his Deep State masters are scared of this woman and told him to go after her. She seems like a bit of a kook anyway - it was strange to see him grilling her instead of offering up the usual softballs and platitudes to “progressive” interviewees.

In the 1980’s I saw Viet Vets who were trying to get help from
nightmares and/or anxiety and panic attacks from combat in Vietnam drugged up so much they were zombies. Try 350-450 mg of nortriptyline (sp.) every AM and see what you feel like. I saw men who had been in
combat so drugged up that most could barely stay awake during the day and those on other drugs walked the hallways up and down all night.

There is truly an antidepressant epidemic going on in the US, particularly among women. I firmly believe that the overuse of these medications are responsible for the rise in Autism and ADHD in recent decades.

I imagine not.

Altering your brain function with a pill isn’t the answer.
