I guess tariffs shouldn’t apply to old fogies and their pills.

Trump is working on a proposal that would allow the U.S. to import drugs from Canada, HHS Secretary Alex Azar says.
Not sure how that's going to work - the reason the pharmaceutical companies can charge less in Canada is because they stick American consumers with the high cost of recouping their investments into developing the medications in the first place.

Doesn’t Canada get a big discount from the drug manufacturers here in the USA and the drug manufacturers then raise the price to us here in the USA to subsidize the Canadians?

Leftists are already screaming Canadian prescription drugs won’t be safe to take. What BS.

With insurance I pay almost $900 a month for specialty medications; have done for 10 years and I’m not an old fogie. I’d love to pay less.

I thought Congress already passed a law allowing importation of drugs from foreign countries, as long as it was only for personal use.

Why are drug prices in Canada much cheaper than they are in the USA?

What this will do is raise the price of drugs in Canada and lower them in the U.S. Other countries “negotiate” a significantly lower price for the drugs. The pills themselves don’t cost much to make; it is the R&D and FDA costs that they have to recuperate plus profit. The U.S. has foot the bill for most of these costs over the years. President Trump is working towards other countries paying their fair share for the drug’s R&D, etc.

“Working on a plan on how we can import drugs safely and effectively from Canada so the American people get the benefit of the deals that pharma themselves are striking with other countries, “
Just get out of the damned way. There doesn’t need to be a “deal”.

If Trump wants to utterly eviscerate the Dem party, he should make a campaign promise to include medicinal marijuana on the list.
The number of Dems suddenly going cold turkey would freeze the Great Lakes on the spot.

After the forced imposition of Obamacare, my insurance company (5th largest in us) was promoting their prescription benefits. How wonderful and affordable they were if we purchased 90 days from two designated sources. Funny. The deductible was quite high for prescription coverage.
I began shopping around and found full cost generics (not permitted in the US even with expired patents) were less than my deductibles. Same companies manufacturing 3 of the 4 generics as name brands in the US.
Wake up people. It is no longer about recouping development costs, but cost shifting and price gouging guarantees to insurance companies under the Unaffordable Care Act.
Look into it for yourselves. We are saving over $2k a year by paying full price with delivery to the door. Same drugs and same manufacturers as here. Further, a couple of prescription medications sold here were being produced in Canada.
