Trump is working on a proposal that would allow the U.S. to import drugs from Canada, HHS Secretary Alex Azar says.

Not sure how that's going to work - the reason the pharmaceutical companies can charge less in Canada is because they stick American consumers with the high cost of recouping their investments into developing the medications in the first place.

Exactly, after recouping development cost and/or going generic the drug companies sell to the price-controlled/socialist Canadian market. Will lead to fewer new drugs being developed and some shortages. Dumb idea.

So if big Pharma uses US patent law, government spending and consumer lack of awareness against Americans, then let Americans do what they can to help themselves.

There’s “recouping your investment”, and then there’s gouging the public.

If a drug company has a successful product, they can sell it around the world - that’s a market of 6 billion people. That’s plenty enough consumers for the drugco’s to “recoup their investment” with lower prices yet still make a decent profit.

There’s no reason for American consumers have to pay 3X, 4X, 5X what everyone else in the world pays - except that those consumers are getting treated like milch cows.

The pharmaceutical firms provide major financial subsidies to the liberal media via advertising. Watch most network or cable shows and you will see numerous ads promoting their medicines. Fake news networks like CNN are subsidized by these ads.

Then we have the political involvement of Big Pharma, not as blatant perhaps as Big Tech, but still there. Big Tech is trying to override the First Amendment through censorship of non-liberal and non-leftist views. Big Pharma and their allies in the medical community use their influence in Congress, the Federal bureaucracy, and the state legislatures to shut down or at least limit alternative medicine.

By threatening the pharmaceutical cartel, Trump is attacking one of the pillars of the political order supported by Establishment Republicans and most Democrats, except perhaps Williamson and Hirono. Good for him!

Ironic - maybe canada gets them cheap enough they can sell thm back to us at a profit and Americans still get a better deal than what the drug companies give us...so they can provide discount the Canadians...
