The big retail battle is Walmart vs Amazon.

Judging by the way Amazon packages its products for shipment I'm guessing Amazon's work force is roughly equivalent to Walmart's.

But Amazon has the advantage of not having brick and mortar stores where shoppers mingle with their employees.

Don’t know anything about their personal history but I have found the employees of the many local Wallys to be very helpful.
Streamwood, IL is mostly Hispanic most of the time and exceptionally good.

And a big plus, I once saw an older Hispanic clerk clearly and distinctly tell some blacks they could NOT use the express line with a cart full of stuff.

Never had been much of a Wally’s shopper until we received an out of state call about someone attempting to using a credit card in my name at Wally’s.
They were extremally helpful in straightening that mess out.

For the typical part time Walmart employee hired for a particular job (e.g. stocking), neither customer service or store security would be considered part of their job duties.

Publix prices are also fifteen percent higher than WalMart groceries. That gets, I imagine, a higher wage and less turnover. I also notice that every employee in my local Publix is female. Customer service, cashiers,pharmacy...all female.

EXACTLY! I just got home from Homo Depot where I bought 20 bags of mulch. As I was paying the lady at the register in the garden section the Homo Depot dude employee standing there talking to her and complaining that it's hot and he's thirsty just walked off as quickly as he could KNOWING I'd just bought 20 bags of mulch as he damned sure wasn't going to help me load it.
