To see how a reckless idiot died.

So the legacy of the reckless idiot claims another reckless idiot's life. You cant make this stuff up!

Same here in regard to hotels. “Roughing it” is no complimentary robe.

Ha ha! Me too!

[The missus and I will celebrate 56 years of family circus in a few weeks, and we are still each other's BFF.....interspersed with times I felt like wringing her &#$#ed neck. As to how she's felt about me occasionally; well, I'll leave that up to her to tell.😇]

LOL, good description.

We'll celebrate our 55th next April.

(Whispers: I realized too late that I should have instead just robbed a bank. I would have been free in only 7 years with good behavior!)

My wife enjoyed both books and forced me to watch the "Into the Wild" movie. I didn't like it. The main character was written as a total Mary Sue. Everywhere he wandered people thought he was the most wonderful person ever as he spouted his naive nonsense. They'd swoon and beg him to stay but no, no, he is off on his grand adventure to fix the world but he'll be back. "Oh we'll wait! we'll wait and pray each day for your swift return" they'd basically all say as he walked off.

Then he died stupidly which by that point just made me laugh.

Then, we picked up the Butterfield Trail in Memphis and followed it to the Wells Fargo Head Quarters in San Francisco. The Butterfield trail is named for the holder of the contract for the first transcontinental US Mail contract. It crosses Arkansas, Oklahoma, 900 miles across central Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Southern Califirnia and up to San Francisco. It to passes through the genuine America we yearn for. The principles were Mr Butterfield who owned a bank called American Express and his counterpart at Wells Fargo. The growth of their business demanded actual documents to be transmitted by the mail. The delivery was guranteed in 23 days and it was alwas on time.

Thanks for that. I played on a golf course named Butterfield Trail in El Paso. And now I know the origin!

my roommate was a volunteer at sequala national park. he was as a part of a group of volunteers that patrolled one of the rivers in the park warning the guests that it was dangerous. to cross. people don’t understand how dangerous a fast snow fed stream can be if they trip. even with his group patrolling every other year there is fatalities. wilderness is a dangerous place and if you don’t respect it then it wont respect you.

The author wrote about another man’s mistake.

It appears to me that the woman who drowned in the river didn’t read the book. The current in the river was the reason that the young man died. He could not cross the river to safety.
The school bus is not very far from civilization but very difficult to reach because of the river.

I liked “Into Then Air”...

The guy that “Into the Wild” was written about was, to me, a total dipshit....

The thing about it was that two miles downstream from where McCandless couldn’t cross the river was a bridge....

Mc Candleless father died this winter. He has a place in Tucson where I live. Sad family dynamics. I know his neighbor and he wasn’t liked

Being inspired to undertake dangerous adventures by a book or movie rarely ends well.

There really needs to be some “play stupid games, expect to win stupid prizes” laws. Go to extra risky places and/or do extra risky things? Sucks to be you when it goes bad. Don’t cry at us to come save your stupid self.
