Turkey may reconsider $10B Boeing orders – Erdogan

President Erdogan says Turkey may re-evaluate its procurement of the aircraft from the US following Ankara's suspension from F-35 fighter jet project.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday said that Ankara may have to "re-evaluate" existing orders for Boeing airplanes worth $10 billion, in comments underlining the country's strained ties with the US.

"I've told [US President Donald] Trump [at the G20 summit] in Osaka even if Turkey is not buying the Patriot missile system, we are buying Boeing," Erdogan was quoted by Bloomberg.

"We are good customers. But if it goes on like this, we'll have to rethink about this deal."

Ties between the two NATO allies are strained due to Washington's support for the PKK terror organisation's Syrian wing the YPG, and its refusal to extradite FETO chief Fetullah Gulen. Turkey's purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defence system has added to the tensions.

F-35 fighter jets

Erdogan, who was speaking during a meeting with the provincial heads of the governing AK Party at Ankara headquarters, also said Turkey will consider other options if the US refuses to sell it F-35 fighter jets.

The Trump administration says the S-400 could expose the advanced fighter to possible Russian subterfuge and is incompatible with NATO systems.

Turkey, however, says the S-400 would not be integrated into NATO systems and would not pose a threat to the alliance.

Turkish Airlines, the nation's flagship carrier where the government holds a 49 percent stake, announced in March 2018 that it will buy 25 of Boeing's 787-9 jets, which are scheduled for delivery by 2023.

Muslims and weapons of war are a spectacularly bad idea.

This cat is nothing more than a fascist dictator. The Turkish people hate him and the only way to resolve this problem may have to be handled by Mossad.

WTF ever...

Buy Russian scrap.

You either want to be in NATO and be part of our system or you want to live on an island marooned from the rest of us...

VERY pretty. LOL.

I went to Turkey at Christmas time with a Jewish friend in...hmmm..1995, I think. Pre-Erdogan for sure. It was wonderful. No veils, or less than 2% in Istanbul.. People were delighted to see Americans and there were more Christmas decorations up than on uber-liberal Bainbridge island just off Seattle.

I was devastated to learn that the country hicks in veils moved into Istanbul and elected this jerk. So many darling women who dressed as Americans and had great jobs in advertising, etc., became downtrodden or even got killed after this Islamist was elected. Of course I’ll never go back.

Turkey can also buy Eurofighters as well a Airbus

Giving Turkey a weapon with the capabilities of the F35 is a huge mistake. The capabilities of the F35 make the Lockheed F117 look like an old tricycle.

Giving the Russians a chance to track F35 on a daily basis with with their latest air defense missiles system to learn how to shoot it down would be a disaster of epic proportions.

The Russians would give Turkey the systems for free just to get the chance, which is probably the plan

Comparing to London or Toronto you don’t see that many veils in Istanbul to this day.

Let him by those single-use Russian airliners. Fly ‘em once then toss ‘em. You know, the ones with the glazed noses that came off the old bomber assembly lines.

Boeing gets a lot of money from the US taxpayer for government related projects. They won’t go bankrupt if they don’t sell some airplanes to Turkey.
