The worst countries in the world to be a woman? Places torn apart by war, or societies stifled by centuries of male patriarchy, a recent survey by the Thomson Reuters Foundation shows. So which category does the United States fall into? Because the US made 10th place – the only western country on the list.
Conducted online, by phone and in person between March 26th and May 4th, the survey polled 548 experts on women's issues spread evenly across Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific. Those surveyed included academics and policymakers, healthcare staff and ngo workers, aid and development professionals and social commentators. They were asked which five of the UN's 193 member states they thought were the most dangerous for women in six areas:

US is a GREAT place for women. I wish it were better, such that it were ILLEGAL from coast to coast to abort a female baby. Or a male one, for that matter.
It's interesting but if you were to subtract one particular ethnic group from the statistics, America would be one of the least violent countries in the world, if less than the European countries.
They should move to Sierra Leone where they can expect to die around 50. That’ll show America.

All but two African countries are safer. Ladies, flee to Mali, Chad or Burkina Faso before others beat you to it!
Russia and Belarus? Safer. Plus, you can make a lot of money escorting or "modelling" too, ladies!
Burma? Paradise! Well, unless the lady is Karen, Shan or Muslim.
I would hope that the American "experts" who voted for the US on this survey would just leave this awful place, but the America haters never do, do they?

Succinctly put.
The only geographic outlier, and the only western/developed country on the list, is the United States of America. It 'earned' its 10th place due to its ranking in third place when the respondents were asked where women were most at risk of sexual violence, harassment and being coerced into sex.
The U.S. did not figure in the Top 10 for the previous survey in 2011. Its 'surprise' addition this time, experts say, is because of the #MeToo movement and #TimesUp campaign, highlighting issues of sexual violence and harassment – both in the high-profile cases that started the ball rolling, and the many others that came to light since.
Somehow in the view of the authors of the study deciding to have sex in return for a million dollar movie job is much worse than being dragged out of your high school at gunpoint and forced to marry one of your captors. Maybe in their eyes it is, since after all the Hollywood starlets are white, and the Boko Haram victims aren't.
