Over the weekend, young toughs with buckets full of water randomly soaked cops in Harlem and Brownsville just for the hell of it. At one point, an officer got conked on the head by an empty plastic bucket to the vast amusement of jeering onlookers.
It was apparently an internet challenge sort of thing and a horrifying sight, at least to those who understand the implications of unchallenged anarchic public behavior.
But it should have surprised no one.
The NYPD, under orders from City Hall, has been standing down for years now watching fare-beaters beating fares, pot-dealers dealing pot and addicts and insane people defecating in the streets, all without consequence.

That's why I don't go into NYC anymore. It's disgusting.
Brownsville should have a fence put around it and become a zoo.
Elect a communist mayor, city turns to sh!t.
Well, jeeze, cops in Seattle stand around and watch innocent people get beaten by masked thugs these days too. Since even cops are scared of getting in the left’s faces these days what should we expect?
Young toughs.... = hood rats.

These cops deserve medals for their constraint though. Any other person would have turned around and shot the bastards.
NY City has a huge police force, and I would bet there are over 10,000 that could retire. What if all submitted papers for retirement, all on the same date, say in one month. That is collusion that I could handle. The retirement papers can easily be withdrawn, but the pressure could bring changes to city hall.
I recently spoke with a family friend (pre-water bucket incident) who has been a life long NYC resident. They recall the way things were going downhill before Giuliani and the actions they took to deal with crime. They saw how Giuliani got tough and dealt with the little things that lead to big things. They can see NYC turning back into a unsafe pre-Giuliani city unless the city leadership get tough on crime again, which they don’t see happening.
According to the NYPD website, they have approximately 36k sworn police officers and 19k civilian employees. Even if only 1k actually retired with little notice would cause huge staffing issues trying to cover each pct. 3 shifts would likely be impossible without mandatory OT and reduce patrols, IMHO.
My son is currently pursuing a law enforcement degree. He pointed out to me that LEOs are the only ones who are hated by both the left and the right. Several local police officers are homeschooling dads-good guys who love God and want to serve and protect their community.
Our son is the same. Hes always gone out of his way to help others-so much so that we used to get annoyed and think people were using him. He has a huge smile and a great work ethic-when in junior high and high school his wrestling teammates voted him hardest worker year after year.
Stories like this one make my blood boil. Our son is a good, decent, kind and honorable young man; as are many other police officers. The people abusing them are scum compared to the officers.
David Dinkins, according to the NYT, pledged to be the toughest mayor on crime this city has ever seen.” What a sick joke!
He is correct. Free Republic pretty much supports the police, but it has some particularly vile cop haters.
Stop answering calls for service and let them do what they want. If a homicide occurs, show up, scoop up the body and hand out some business cards. Outside of that, don’t do sh*t. Look what happened in Baltimore after the Freddy Gray* stuff. City went nuts. Cops left and/or stopped working. Violence spiraled out of control and the people were begging for them to come back to work. NOPE... You voted for it, you got it.
Same thing happened in Atlanta. Person most at fault is the Supervisor who ordered them in there, but that’s a different topic

Stay out of the neighborhoods and let them fend for themselves. Won’t take long.
As a former detective, tell your son to become a fireman. Work 10 days a month. The people love you and you can make some really decent money on your off days.
There’s actually a quote from a white police officer telling blacks that if black lives don’t matter, we’d never show up.
When the hood rats can get away with doing that to the cops, just imagine what they will do to you!
