Jeffrey Epstein was denied bail on Thursday, and will remain at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan ahead of his criminal trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
The decision comes after two court filings submitted by his legal team were shown to have false or misleading information.
On Tuesday, Epstein's defense team appeared to be throwing down the gauntlet when they declared prosecutors had no proof Epstein had ever used an official Austrian passport with his photo and an assumed name that was found in a safe at his $77 million mansion.
'He never used the document to travel internationally and never presented it to any immigration or customs authority,' claimed attorney Marc French.
One day later, prosecutors filed their own letter which not only denied that claim, but also listed the specific countries where Epstein, 66, had used the passport.

That's clearly a reference to The Grotto at Hugh Hefner's Playboy Mansion, and what would famously happen there on a very grand scale every year on Mid-Sommer's Night, all night long, involving many people.
All manner of powerful people went there and participated.
So it makes me wonder who really was Hugh Hefner, did he have any other secret role or loyalty, and what kind of powerful work product might secretly have come out of the Playboy Enterprise, all those years back.
It went on for DECADES.
I cannot believe that Blackmail is some type of really new invention.
Epstein's public product involved investment returns but it now turns out his main product was blackmail.
All the same infrastructure was in place for Hugh Hefner.
Was Epstein the first time this happened in the USA recently..?
I have my doubts.

Of course, when Clinton was in charge, that meant someone like Jim McDougal could have die of a "heart attack" in BOP custody, and no one said boo (except here on FR).
That's not the case today, and I think Epstein will make it to trial.
I bet he's in protective conditions, which I think effectively means solitary.
He's innocent until proven guilty, so he's a little bit less restricted than he'll be after he's convicted.

In fact, the passport contains numerous ingress and egress stamps, including stamps that reflect use of the passport to enter France, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Saudi Arabia in the 1980s.
One can hardly blame Epstein for wanting to exchange his jail cell for a multi-million-dollar mansion, though. I'll bet every inmate in the place would jump at the chance.
A comment at that time said it was so he could travel to SA. They don’t accept people with Israeli passports. Suspect that is the third passport.
