One of John Podesta's emails released by WikiLeaks this week exposes how progressive elites seek to exploit the unwashed masses. The email features one of Podesta's colleagues from the Center for American Progress admitting that the institutional left "conspires to produce an unaware and compliant citizenry," ostensibly to impose their radical agenda on us without much resistance. ....snip
.. In the email from March of 2016, Ivey expresses concern about the rise of "opinionated blowhard" Trump and frets because the "citizenry" seems to be awakening.
Well, we all thought the big problem for our US democracy was Citizens United/Koch Brothers big money in politics. Silly us; turns out that money isn't all that important if you can conflate entertainment with the electoral process. Trump masters TV, TV so-called news picks up and repeats and repeats to death this opinionated blowhard and his hairbrained ideas, free-floating discontent attaches to a seeming strongman and we're off and running. JFK, Jr would be delighted by all this as his "George" magazine saw celebrity politics coming. The magazine struggled as it was ahead of its time but now looks prescient. George, of course, played the development pretty lightly, basically for charm and gossip, like People, but what we are dealing with now is dead serious.
How does this get handled in the general? Secretary Clinton is not an entertainer, and not a celebrity in the Trump, Kardashian mold; what can she do to offset this? I'm certain the poll-directed insiders are sure things will default to policy as soon as the conventions are over, but I think not.
And as I've mentioned, we've all been quite content to demean government, drop civics and in general conspire to produce an unaware and compliant citizenry. The unawareness remains strong but compliance is obviously fading rapidly. This problem demands some serious, serious thinking - and not just poll driven, demographically-inspired messaging
I was trying to find this Podesta email just this morning, with no luck.
The arrogance is astounding - and yet they call Trump a narcissist. Disgusting.
They’re arrogant because they have gotten away with it for so long.
So, who is the author?
Ivey... but which Ivey?
His opinion sounds much like Victor Davis Hanson.
It is not Podesta writing, but Ivey.
He is mistaken on this, by conflating the unaware with the non-compliant. The unaware are compliant; the aware gave us the fighter Trump.
“Theyre arrogant because they have gotten away with it for so long.”
There’s that for sure, but there’s also the pathetic belief by most of these people that they are the ‘intelligentsia’. In almost all instances this belief is based upon and sustained by an overrated academic pedigree of some sort. It’s a tragic joke.
There are ~1.34 million attorneys in the US, yet a small number of them in DC think they are a rare commodity with all knowledge and wisdom. Truly a joke, but a destructive and dangerous one.
“unaware and compliant citizenry”
Has worked very well.
Up to 2016 though. The Trump rallies changed all that.
The Left lack the most important form of intelligence.. Emotional intelligence.
Now you know what all the gazillion or so “think tanks” have been doing all these years.
And it also indirectly illustrates the role of the press. No wonder everybody hates them.
And so we see, just as a minor point, the blacklisting of Prager University videos at Progressive-activist corporation Google/YouTube. Can't have the unwashed masses hearing counter-narrative history, for example. It also explains the overall rewriting and teaching of history and the lack of basic economics education in high schools. So yes, mission accomplished.
[snip]I think his concern was not that "they were no longer blindly accepting the left's BS "messaging."", but rather, someone else had managed to co-opt the communication line to these befuddled masses. In other words, the are still mindlessly watching television, they've just suddenly realized there might be more than one channel.
Glad you pulled this to the forefront.
BTTT
The Center for American Progress received money from Russia via a kind of front company in the Bahamas...what was it, Sea Change?
