And, here's another quote from the speech:

The 4th of July is the first great fact in your nation's history-the very ring-bolt in the chain of your yet undeveloped destiny. Pride and patriotism, not less than gratitude, prompt you to celebrate and to hold it in perpetual remembrance. I have said that the Declaration of Independence is the RINGBOLT to the chain of your nation's destiny; so, indeed, I regard it. The principles contained in that instrument are saving principles. Stand by those principles, be true to them on all occasions, in. all places, against all foes, and at whatever cost.

And still another:

They loved their country better than their own private interests; and, though this is not the highest form of human excellence, all will concede that it is a rare virtue, and that when it is exhibited, it ought to command respect. He who will, intelligently, lay down his life for his country, is a man whom it is not in human nature to despise. Your fathers staked their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor, on the cause of their country. In their admiration of liberty, they lost sight of all other interests.

Go read the entire speech. It is awesome. He does tell the truth about peoples' attitudes back then and what needed to change. It has changed.

The most important context of that speech is that it was a thinly-veiled rebuke of the hypocrisy of so many people even in the abolitionist movement. While they strove to eliminate slavery for their own moral reasons, many of them were adamantly opposed to the idea that emancipated slaves should be treated as equal citizens under the law — in NORTHERN states.

“He who will, intelligently, lay down his life for his country, is a man whom it is not in human nature to despise.”
For the record, the all White Union army during July 1, 2, & 3 of 1863 at Gettysburg incurred 5,291 KIA and mortally wounded casualties. They carried out the expressed policies of their government to end slavery, a government they elected three years before they died.

If it wasn’t for Frederick Douglass, Colin Crapernick would have his wish and be living in Africa right now. Lincoln wanted to send the freed slaves back, Douglass met with him and asked him not to, so he didn’t.

Mr. Kaepernick you are not a slave, you weren’t a slave, you didn’t play one on TV. You just need something to bitch about and keep yourself in the public eye.

“It has changed.”

The Leftists will NEVER admit to that! You can’t make any money off of ‘progress’ in any form. ;)

Nobody can be this stupid. Piss away millions of dollars and fame to support a leftist cause the majority doesn’t believe in.

Are we supposed to believe that Kaepernick produced this quote and video montage himself?

Everybody has asked the question, and they learned to ask it early of the abolitionists, “What shall we do with the Negro?” I have had but one answer from the beginning. Do nothing with us! Your doing with us has already played the mischief with us. Do nothing with us! If the apples will not remain on the tree of their own strength, if they are wormeaten at the core, if they are early ripe and disposed to fall, let them fall! I am not for tying or fastening them on the tree in any way, except by nature’s plan, and if they will not stay there, let them fall. And if the Negro cannot stand on his own legs, let him fall also. All I ask is, give him a chance to stand on his own legs! Let him alone! If you see him on his way to school, let him alone, don’t disturb him! If you see him going to the dinner table at a hotel, let him go! If you see him going to the ballot- box, let him alone, don’t disturb him! [Applause.] If you see him going into a work-shop, just let him alone,—your interference is doing him a positive injury. - F. Douglas, from “What the Black Man Wants”

Seems to me, if Mr Douglas were alive today, he would be appalled at the lost opportunity. He would see these inner city thugs as the worm-eaten rotten to the core apples who fell from the trees. I think he’d kick them to them to the curb instead of using them for agitprop as our politicians do.

Douglass judged America as a nation on the wording of her founding documents NOT on how flawed men applied them. Democrats do the opposite. They judge America as flawed and want to kill her. So far they are winning...

Kapernick wouldn’t know Frederick Douglass from French toast. Someone is running him like a puppet. Some might say he’s slaved to a controller.

Two black men I would put into the Founding Father category would be Booker T Washington and Frederick Douglass. Frederick douglass’s speech from that day is one of the most hard-hitting fantastic eloquent speeches I’ve ever read. Kaepernick probably didn’t even know who Frederick Douglass was. I invite my freeper friends out there if you have not read this speech be brave and read the whole thing ...it is worth every word and it is also a good thing when we are very informed when the enemy comes after us. Most liberals have not read it I guarantee that.
