It’s our elites who are driving America’s divisions

In his new book, “Fall,” the celebrated sci-fi author Neal Stephenson envisions a future United States split between the violent, gun-toting, uneducated, cross-burning religious fanatics of bullet-ridden “Ameristan” and the peaceful, educated, secular denizens of the nation’s Blue enclaves, where decorum and truth always prevail.

Stephenson, one of the most imaginative novelists of our time, fails to live up to his usual standards with “Fall.” Cultural and political elites have long depicted a Red America teeming with slack-jawed extremists; there is nothing original about his vision. In fact, it isn’t very far removed from the perception many coastal elites hold today.

A widely quoted new study, “The Perception Gap,” finds that both Democrats and Republicans imagine that almost twice as many people on the other side hold radical views than actually do. The study is the work of a group called More in Common. Yet even some of its polling questions reproduce the same biases the group decries, framing liberal positions as natural or mainstream and conservative ones as extreme.

When I was entering a leash-optional dog park a day or two ago, a guy was leaving with his dog and the Stephenson book Fall.

I really liked Neal Stephenson's book Cryptonomicon and asked the guy about the book said it was great. I still haven't read it but I heard about this study from Bongino.

The linked article suggests that, like so many others I formerly considered admirable artists, Stephenson has been brainwashed too.

Dog park? Dystopian future? Ever read Harlan Ellison’s “A Boy and His Dog”?

Why are all riots that happen in the USA, populated by extremist left-wing Democrats and other liberals? They are the crazy extremists! Very hard-pressed to find any conservatives making mayhem or assaulting others. Liberalism is a psychotic disease resulting in riotous unhinged behavior. Just dealing with liberal relatives proves that.

I remember a movie with that name, and I didn’t like it because the lighting was very dark. Maybe it was a different film with the same name.

Don Johnson? That’s the story.

A lot of it was shot at night, or in “ the Down Under. “

While the misperceptions that Republicans harbor about Democrats don’t improve with higher levels of education, the misconceptions Democrats have regarding Republicans only get worse with every additional degree they earn.

“This effect is so strong,” the study’s authors note, “that Democrats without a high-school diploma are three times more accurate than those with a postgraduate degree.”

This is because degree-granting institutions no longer educate, they indoctrinate.

It is no longer accurate to speak of the "college educated." The reality today is that those with a degree are "college indoctrinated."

And the one organization most hated by those elites is the NRA.

Don Johnson’s first starring role and a lot of the scenes were at night. Blood (the dog) was the real star of the movie.

Neal Stephenson is a stupid person; he ignores 100 years of leftist terror and tyranny - 100 years of RECENT history, ongoing to this day.

It's mind boggling he has this completely backwards.

Does he actually believe this, is he trying to be provocative, or flipping the script to satisfy his audience?

The violence, gun-toting, and uneducated are in blue cities. No one is burning crosses.

This is the worst of SJWs.

The median household income for Trump supporters during the primaries was $72,000, for Bernie and Hillary supporters it was $61,000. Since income is very closely correlated with education level we can infer that the average Trump supporter is more highly educated than the average Hillary voter. That’s the opposite of what the media would have us believe but from my observations it’s true. While the democrats have the support of rich coastal elites, by far most of their voters are from the non-working welfare class and their biggest intellectual exercise every day is deciding whether to take a nap before or after lunch.

Elites...? they are nothing more than criminals who pass laws they do not have to adhere to which is beyond illegal....the divisions reported are embellished by a communistic propaganda press...f k the elites they employees of ours protected only by their perverse interpretation of the laws that existed far longer than their brief and current stay.

As a violent gun-toter, I would easily invade and enslave to peaceful blue enclaves inside of a week.

What does "supporters" mean? What is the source?

Supporters means people that likely voted for him during the primary. The source is: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-mythology-of-trumps-working-class-support/

Thanks. Nate Silver is a leftist AFAIK, and I would say that makes his premise more credible, because he has no motive to say anything flattering about Trump.

It’s projection. Stephenson is intelligent enough to see the urban decay caused by progressive policies but has to comfort himself by inventing a far worse “red world” outside. The Left has done quite a number selling this same dystopian vision to Asian voters - it’s why they keep selecting Democrats against their own economic interests.
