Easy. Anyone that wanted to get us into that mess in Syria had an agenda that lines up with McCain more than Trump.

“Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria was made quickly, without consulting his national-security team or allies, the Associated Press reported. The president reportedly agreed to the hasty pullout during a phone call last week with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, shocking National Security Adviser John Bolton, who vehemently objected to the decision”

Sounds like another one of the fifty shades of bullshit the democrats throw around the way they did with Kavanaugh.

They shot down a drone - military responses need to come much further down the line, not now.

If Bibi’s unhappy with Iran, he has his own air force.

They are sounding boards who offer Trump an opinion that he can weigh his decisions against. I don’t want “yes” men on my team. I want men who will provide an intellectual argument so I can look at all options and make the best decision.

Besides that, Trump has a limited pool of people who actually know how the machinery works. It is not his fault that the overwhelming majority are interventionist, either globalist or project-American power-ist. He just can't pick heads of populist think tanks to be able to provide enough information on the Irans, Syrias, or Goozbekistans of the world.

Their military... attacked two neutral civilian tankers...

And then their military... attacked US military assets...

And you believe that our military attacking their military assets is premature?

How many more military and civilian targets need to be hit before you'll deign to allow us to respond in kind, and take out some of their military hardware?

(I think Pres Trump reacted correctly by asking for a possible death count, and since it was more than zero, recalled the attack... but those planning the attack should have targeted assets with zero risk of human loss, so that our President could allow it to continue. Parked fighters on a tarmac, and the airbase runways, would do quite nicely.)

Trump needs a junkyard dog being barely restrained in dealing with adversaries.

We thought we were getting one of those in "Mad Dog" Mattis. He turned out to be just another Middle East war adventurist.

President Trump, secure our borders first!

Exactly! A fight for America is a fight worth having. The Iran is someone else’ problem.

Can’t disagree with that. Is construction ongoing of the wall?

>>> It would just unify the Iranians against us <<<

Perhaps. But I think the Iranian people have been beaten down by their fascist leaders to the point that they are fodder. Any action we take should specifically target leadership, hit their economy, and be lasting. It would help if Japan, China, and Europe was on board.

He should hold off on the strike until July 4.

President Trump is dealing with the Iran Crisis in the exact correct manner. Steady at the Helm. Outsmarting everyone in the room and every adversary in the world.

Oh my God...these people need to calm down.

Sure there operations orders were given, but the forces when to the loiter point.

This was a feint from the start. The was no way Trump was going to blow up people to compensate for an expensive drone. That would not be consider “hoyle” around even our allies.

We are still in the “ain’t nothing but a thang” mode of this encounter. Next we go into “hold me back”. Then we go into the “mother insults.” Finally we just punch them and put them on the ground.

We are a ways away from THAT. Everyone needs to friggin relax. Polish your war woodies and put them away for a while.

> Their military... attacked two neutral civilian tankers...

There is no verifiable evidence of that.

> And then their military... attacked US military assets...

They attacked a hostile aircraft in their airspace, as we would do - as anyone would do.

> And you believe that our military attacking their military assets is premature?

Everyone in the world who isn’t a rabid and bloodthirsty neo-something would agree that our military attacking them would be wholly unjustified.

The reality of the situation is that you are openly advocating for murder, in front of a crowd that mostly takes “Thou shalt not kill” seriously.

Iran will do something else. They need to keep turning around to the people behind them and talk shit. Taunt the big guy whom you are pretty sure isn’t going to beat the crap out of you.

Have none of you ever seen a street fight on an urban street corner? Not a gun fight—but the fight that ends up in the gun fight.

We are still in the name calling phase.

Clever setup?

No time to read whole thread now. Someone probably said that.

Threat is made; Trump skates. Perfect. If true.

I don’t think Russia will stand idly by and allow the Iranian regime to fall and become a neutral or pro Western regime. Russia is very close geographically to Iran, separated by former Soviet republics facilitating resupply of Iranian military.

In the short run, drama in the gulf pumps up the oil price and encourages the Chinese to buy more Russian oil.

As far as the long term is concerned, I wonder if there are any oil pipelines being constructed from Iran to China via Russia and old Soviet republics. I think that’s probably part of the Silk Road concept Russia and China are talking about.
